‘General Hospital’s Rick Hearst Explains Why Elizabeth Should Be With Ric

Ric (Rick Hearst) and Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) have a long and complicated history together on General Hospital, but the chemistry between them just can’t be ignored. Despite their past (and Ric’s many misdeeds), Elizabeth and Ric’s feelings have resurfaced, and they’ve been tiptoeing around the idea of reuniting.
But now, there’s a new man in the running for Elizabeth’s heart: Dante (Dominic Zamprogna). This Port Charles love triangle is gaining traction, and Hearst is very much on Team Ric. In a new interview, he opened up about why he believes Ric is worthy of Elizabeth again.
“I think at this point he’s very, he’s committed to being a different person with her, and she understands and is willing to take that part of him that is seemingly very much in the past because [in] the present has not really presented itself that way,” Hearst said on the That’s Awesome podcast with Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson.
“I think he’s worth the investment,” the actor added. Hearst acknowledged that Ric has been known for his sudden heel turns in the past, and he hopes that the storyline doesn’t throw in an unexpected wrench just for shock value.
He also teased a pivotal moment coming up between Ric, Liz, and Dante. “We all happen to be in a scene together,” Hearst hinted, before bringing up how weirdly complicated the love triangle is because Dante is technically Ric’s nephew.
Since his return to General Hospital, Hearst has relished getting to work with Herbst and Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis), whom he calls his “work wives.”
Hearst noted that Herbst is the “ultimate caretaker.” (How very Liz of her.) Most of the cast members on GH have known each other for over 20 years, so there’s a natural camaraderie there and a sense of family that Hearst has always loved.
