‘You Are Here’: Claire Foy & Matthew Macfadyen to Lead David Nicholls Adaptation at Starz
A new David Nicholls adaptation is coming to TV as Starz digs into the One Day author’s library for You Are Here, an all-new drama led by Claire Foy and Matthew Macfadyen.
The series follows the unexpected romance between Michael (Macfadyen) and Marnie (Foy) and is set against the backdrop of a gorgeous countryside setting. When will You Are Here premiere?
No premiere date has been set for You Are Here yet, but Starz already revealed that the show will be filmed in the Lake District and around Manchester in England, as the story’s coast-to-coast walking trail setting spans from the Lake District to Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire. What is You Are Here about?
You Are Here follows Michael and Marnie, who are thrown together by a mutual friend as they find themselves setting off on an epic walk. Along their journey, Michael and Marnie’s bond grows to the point of a potential relationship that neither one was looking for, but may be the thing they both need. You Are Here is described as a tale about finding connection when you least expect it and overcoming midlife obstacles while treading a path that stretches from loneliness to love. As Marnie and Michael go from coast-to-coast and experience the English countryside, they’ll navigate a strong attraction that is exciting and scary at the same time. The story and adaptation come from Nicholls’ book of the same name, which was released in 2024.

You Are Here was greenlit by Starz and the BBC, and will be directed by Normal People‘s Lenny Abrahamson as well as produced by Element Pictures, which is a Fremantle company. David Nicholls is writing the show for TV, adapting his novel for the screen. Meanwhile, You Are Here is executive produced by Foy, Macfadyen, Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Emma Norton, Jonny Richards, and Anne Ferguson, while Claire Shepherd is attached to produce.
What has been said about You Are Here?

Meanwhile, Nicholls stated, “I’m so delighted to be working on You Are Here with Element, the BBC, STARZ and Lenny, whose work I’ve admired for many years. And Matthew and Claire are both just dream casting, wonderful in comedy and drama, so detailed and thoughtful and sympathetic. The intention with the novel was to write a close-up study of a relationship, but set against this magnificent landscape, and that’s our ambition here too; to make something both intimate and epic, funny and dramatic, a romantic comedy with real emotion. We can’t wait to bring Marnie and Michael’s journey to the screen.”
Abrahamson delivered similar praise for Nicholls as his statement read, “As a huge admirer of David’s writing, I’m delighted to be collaborating with him to bring You Are Here to the screen. The novel is such a beautiful love story – funny, profound and ultimately deeply hopeful.
