‘Sterling Point’: Annie & Ramona’s Family Tree & More Connections, Explained

Annie (Ella Rubin) doesn’t just navigate relationship drama in Sterling Point Season 1. Her adoptive family turns out to be more complicated than she ever could’ve imagined. When her late maternal grandpa leaves her a Canadian island in his will, Annie heads there to get answers. She uncovers secret after secret about her late mother, Goldie, as a result. (Warning: Sterling Point Season 1 spoilers ahead!)

The biggest one? After adopting Annie and Connor (Keen Ruffalo), Goldie had a biological daughter, Ramona (Amélie Hoeferle). Goldie died when Ramona was a baby. Goldie’s dad, Gordon, raised Ramona in Sterling Point. Annie and her younger sister didn’t know about each other until Annie’s arrival on the island. Annie’s dad, Steven (Jay Duplass), knew of Ramona’s existence and kept them apart for 16 years.

One major question remains: Who is Ramona’s dad?

Everyone was under the impression that Goldie had a fling with a tourist and got pregnant, which would mean that she left Steven and had an affair before she died. Annie and Ellis (Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie) come across information that indicates Ramona’s dad might not be a stranger after all. Keep reading for the full breakdown of the sisters’ family and parentage.

Who are Annie and Connor’s parents?

Annie and her twin brother were adopted as newborns by Steven and Goldie, who were married. Steven thought he wasn’t able to have children — he “shoots blanks,” as Connor says.

An unhappy Goldie later left Steven and their home in New York City. She took Annie and Connor to her hometown of Sterling Point, but Steven didn’t agree to it. He followed them and brought the kids back to New York, leaving Goldie there. Annie and Connor were between one and two years old, so they don’t remember anything from that period of their lives.

Before she died giving birth to Ramona — not of cancer, which is what Steven told his kids — Goldie filed for divorce from Steven. Goldie had an affair with her high school sweetheart, Joe (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), before her separation from Steven was finalized.

Joe is Ellis’ father. Joe was hooking up with Goldie behind his wife Kate’s (Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers) back. Kate finds out about the affair during Season 1, which leaves the fate of their relationship unclear, but we digress.

Are Annie and Connor’s birth parents involved in the drama at all? Not yet and not as far as we know. But Connor starts looking for his birth parents by the end of Season 1, and he hears back from the adoption agency in the finale episode. His mother wants to meet him.

Who is Ramona’s dad?

So, was Ramona born from Goldie and Joe’s affair? Joe, Goldie, Gordon, and Steven all thought that was the case, even though Joe decided not to be involved in Ramona’s life. Upon his death, Gordon left Ramona’s guardianship to Joe.

Sterling Point family tree

Prime Video

Alas, this is Sterling Point, where nothing can be that easy. When Annie makes an offhand comment about Steven being colorblind, Ramona wonders if she could be Steven and Goldie’s biological daughter. Ramona herself is colorblind, and the condition is genetic. After Steven takes a DNA test, her suspicions are confirmed.

Ramona and Annie are even more closely related (if not by blood) than they originally thought. In the finale, Ramona decides to live in New York with Steven and Connor while Annie stays behind in Sterling Point.
