When Will ‘Heartbreak High’ Return for Season 3? Everything We Know So Far
What To Know
- Heartbreak High is an Australian teen drama on Netflix.
- Season 3 wrapped production in February 2025.
- The release date and trailer were revealed in February 2026.
The wait is almost over, SLTs. It’s been a long two years since Heartbreak High Season 2 dropped, but the Australian teen drama will soon make its return. And rest assured, senior year at Hartley High will be just as dramatic and messy as ever, based on what the Season 3 trailer revealed.
Heartbreak High fans know that’s par for the course. All the way back in Season 1, Amerie (Ayesha Madon) and Harper (Asher Yasbincek) made an “incest map” — which detailed all of the hookups between their fellow students — in a hidden stairwell. When the school discovered it, Amerie took the fall alone, after Harper cut her off without saying why. Amerie dealt with the fallout, while she and her classmates were forced into a sex ed course.
It only got more chaotic from there. Season 2 introduced a mysterious villain while all of the characters’ usual romantic drama played out — and everything literally went up in flames in the finale. Find out when you’ll be able to catch up with Amerie and the rest of the crew below. (Swooon also has a recap on how Season 2 ended below, in case you need a refresher.)
When will Heartbreak High Season 3 premiere?
At long last, Heartbreak High has set a release date for its third season: March 25. It’ll air over a year after production wrapped in February 2025.

Netflix renewed Heartbreak High for a third and final season in May 2024, shortly after Season 2 came out. That means the Heartbreak High crew went into filming knowing that it was the end, so we can expect all of the characters’ arcs to be completed.
Is there a Heartbreak High Season 3 trailer?
The Hartley High crew is up to their usual shenanigans in the Season 3 trailer. In case you didn’t catch it, scroll up to the top of the page to get your first look at the gang’s senior year.
What will happen in Heartbreak High Season 3?
The official synopsis reads: “In Season 3, it’s time for Hartley High’s graduating class to say ‘goodbye’ to school, and ‘hello’ to adulthood! Yet when a revenge prank goes horribly wrong, Amerie and her friends must cover up their secret or risk losing everything.”
Interestingly enough, it doesn’t mention any of the storylines Season 2 left up in the air. Though the main Bird Psycho conflict wrapped up, the school will have to deal with the aftermath of the fire. More importantly, though, Malakai and Amerie have unfinished business, which is teased in the trailer.
What happened at the end of Heartbreak High Season 2?
As revealed in the opening moments of Season 2, the Year 11 formal ends in a fiery blaze. The finale reveals exactly who set the fire and the person behind Bird Psycho.
But before all that, Malakai (Thomas Weatherall) confesses his love for Amerie to Harper (Asher Yasbincek). Malakai and Amerie’s relationship has endured so many ups and downs, but Malakai has finally realized his true feelings. Harper tells Malakai that Amerie is in a good place with Rowan (Sam Rechner), and he doesn’t need to ruin her formal. The thing is, Malakai is moving away. He wants to tell Amerie how he feels before he goes. He writes a love letter to Amerie and leaves it in her locker.
Quinni (Chloe Hayden) is still determined to find out the identity of Bird Psycho, the person who’s been attacking Amerie all season long. She’s got her crime board and everything. Quinni and Sasha (Gemma Chua-Tran) deduce that Rowan, Amerie’s new love, is behind Bird Psycho. They want to back up their claim, so they head to Rowan’s house to get evidence. Boy, do they find it.

After some hesitation, Ca$h’s Nan convinces him to go to the formal. Ca$h (Will McDonald) is afraid of facing Darren (James Majoos). Navigating his asexuality has caused struggles with Darren, but Nan gives Ca$h just the right words of wisdom: “There’s all kinds of ways to love someone, to be with someone.”
Meanwhile, gym teacher Timothy Voss (Angus Sampson) assembles his followers outside of the Hartley High gymnasium to put an end to the “woke brigade” once and for all. He sets a fire that quickly spirals out of control, leading to an explosion just outside the gym.
At the formal, Amerie finds out that Malakai has left town. Harper reveals that she spoke to Malakai before he left and told him to leave Amerie alone. This infuriates Amerie and forces her to confess that she’s in love with Malakai after all: “I love Malakai. I never stopped. And now he’s gone,” she says in front of everyone, including Rowan. Amerie runs after him. Amerie and Harper wind up getting locked in a room inside the school as the fire rages on.
Quinni’s right: Rowan is Bird Psycho. Turns out, Rowan’s been holding intense resentment towards Amerie since they met when they were kids. He blames Amerie for his little brother’s death, which was an accident. Rowan explains everything in a video, and he refuses to let Amerie and Harper out of the smoke-filled room. He wants Amerie to be sorry for killing his brother (which she did not).
When Quinni shows up at the school, she runs in after Harper and Amerie. When the fire situation gets even more dire, Harper apologizes to Amerie for what she said to Malakai. Quinni finds them and helps them get out of the school. Despite everything he’s done to her, Amerie refuses to leave Rowan behind.
After surviving a life-threatening fire, the kids aren’t taking anything for granted. Ca$h and Darren share a kiss as the fire consumes the school. In a heartbreaking twist, Malakai’s letter to Amerie burns in the fire. Talk about angst!
“[Malakai and Amerie] are such a beautiful couple,” executive producer Carly Heaton told TV Insider after Season 2’s finale. “They have so many opportunities but mess it up. Malakai has got his own things to explore about his sexual identity… I think [Amerie] knows where she’s got to go now, but whether she’s actually capable of getting there will be a big question for Season 3.”
Who is in the Heartbreak High Season 3 cast?
Roll call! Madon, Yasbincek, Majoos, Hayden, Weatherall, McDonald, Chua-Tran, Sherry-Lee Watson (Missy), Chika Ikogwe (Jojo), Brodie Townsend (Ant), Bryn Chapman Parish (Spider), Kartanya Maynard (Zoe), and Rachel House (Woodsy) will all return.
Josh Heuston (Dusty) was missing from the trailer, but it makes sense considering that his role was already reduced in Season 2. His character moved to a different school, a decision that was likely made after Heuston was cast in Dune: Prophecy. Both shows were filmed around the same time.
Also not featured in the video was Rechner, who played Rowan in Season 2. After how much torment he put Amerie through, we didn’t expect him to stay at Hartley High for another year, anyway.
