‘Love, Rosie’ Turns 10: Lily Collins Looks Back at Her Beloved Romance Movie
It’s been a decade since the world was introduced to Rosie Dunne (Lily Collins) and Alex Stewart (Sam Claflin) in Love, Rosie. Their beautiful (and often complicated) love story was chronicled in the British romantic dramedy, which hit theaters on October 22, 2014.
Collins was a rising star in the early 2010s and has become a household name since — and not only because of her famous dad, Phil Collins. She was radiant as the lead of Love, Rosie, which has become a modern romance classic. Reminiscing about one of her first rom-com roles, she said, “It’s cool because that movie when it came out I don’t know if it really hit as much as I feel like it had the potential to,” alluding to the fact that it wasn’t necessarily a critical success at the time.

Since then, audiences have come to cherish the movie. The film’s most romantic moments often pop up on TikTok. This is something Collins has noticed. “All these years later, it is always really lovely when someone comes and says that that story means a lot to them,” she said. Collins called Love, Rosie a “special project” for her.
Love, Rosie chronicles the relationship between childhood best friends Rosie and Alex. The love between them starts out as just a friendship but evolves into something deeper. Over the years, circumstances just keep getting in their way. But as with most of our beloved romances, Rosie and Alex get their happy ending before the credits roll.
The 35-year-old Emily in Paris actor even made a connection between the 2014 movie and the Darren Star show she’s a part of now. “It’s not too dissimilar I feel like to Emily and Gabriel in a way.” She noted that Rosie and Alex’s romance is similar to Emily and Gabriel’s “because it’s this bad timing love story.”
