‘Bridgerton’ Casts Pivotal Character in Benedict & Sophie’s Love Story

The Ton is sure to be abuzz as Bridgerton‘s Season 4 cast continues to grow behind the scenes. Following Shondaland’s reveal of some table read photos featuring leading stars Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha, a new posting to Hamilton Hodell talent management‘s site under Susan Brown’s profile reveals she’s joined the Netflix hit in a pivotal role.

According to her profile under listed credits, Brown, who has previously appeared in Game of Thrones, The Crown, and Good Omens, among other titles, is set to play Mrs. Crabtree in Season 4 of the Regency-era drama. For fans of Julia Quinn’s novel An Offer From a Gentleman, upon which Season 4 will be based, Brown’s character will certainly ring a bell.

For those invested in the Benophie romance, Mrs. Crabtree plays a pretty important role as one of the caretakers of Benedict’s country home known as My Cottage. Cue the shrieks of delight!

While little has been said about Season 4’s more in-depth plotlines, Brown’s casting definitely teases My Cottage moments to come as Mrs. Crabtree and her husband, Mr. Crabtree, oversee the home that Benedict takes refuge in while recovering from a cold after rescuing Sophie from a malicious employer whose estate he’d happened to be visiting.

In the book, Benedict is unaware of Sophie’s identity as the Lady in Silver, whom he meets and falls in love with at his mother’s masquerade ball. Regardless of this detail, the Crabtrees definitely pick up on the romantic tensions between Sophie and Benedict as he’s nursed back to health at My Cottage.

While we’ll have to wait for official word on the inclusion of My Cottage or this sequence of events from book to screen, Brown’s apparent casting seems to tease that chapter for the latest season. Although Brown’s casting hasn’t been announced officially, there are plenty of new faces that we do know for certain are heading to the Ton.

Along with Ha’s Sophie Baek, Season 4 will introduce Lady Araminta Gun (Katie Leung) and her two daughters Rosamund Li (Michelle Mao) and Posy Li (Isabella Wei). Both Leung and Wei were featured in the table read photos (embedded above), along with returning stars Ruth Gemmell, Hannah Dodd, and Florence Hunt who play Bridgerton ladies Violet, Francesca, and Hyacinth.

Also teased to be returning in the table read photos were Polly Walker as Lady Featherington, Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury, Martins Imhangbe as Will Mondrich, Victor Alli as John Stirling, Hugh Sachs as Brimsley, and Golda Rosheuvel as the Ton’s own Queen Charlotte. Stay tuned for more on Brown’s potential role as Mrs. Crabtree, and let us know what you’d like to see as we look forward to Season 4.
