Wait, did Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell actually break up?
Bachelor Nation fans are shocked by the former couple’s surprising split news, with some even questioning the validity of the breakup, which was announced in James’ latest Instagram post on January 16.
One of the reasons fans are skeptical of their split is because of the way it was suddenly revealed. Just a few hours prior, the couple was seen canoodling in a London food vlog. Eating three pies of 12″ pizzas, the two seemed pretty pleased, and James even tagged Kirkconnell to review “some of the best pizza,” they had ever had.
Quickly after the news broke, fans stormed to the post and started asking questions. “So you are eating 36” total pizza together and 12 hours later you are doing a break up press release?” one fan asked. Another one said, “With all due respect, the math ain’t mathing on this one Matt … have you been hacked?”

Many of the commenters were in the same state of mind. It could be possible though, that the clip was shot before their separation. They could’ve also made that decision across the pond.
Others were also puzzled by another aspect of the announcement. Rather than using a a more personal picture from their four-year relationship, he grabbed a screenshot of their time on Season 25 of The Bachelor, which was full of ups and downs. Kirkconnell was James’ final pick during his season, but he ended their relationship after her past racist actions surfaced online. However, they reunited weeks later and were together until now.
The former Bachelor shared the photo of the two while on the show and captioned it, “Father God, give Rachael and I strength to mend our broken hearts. Give us a peace about this decision to end our relationship that transcends worldly understanding. Shower our friends and family with kindness and love to comfort us. And remind us that our Joy comes from you, Lord 💔.”
