Addie LaRue fans, let’s manifest this casting into existence! A movie based on V.E. Schwab’s bestselling fantasy novel, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, has been in the works for years, so there’s been plenty of time for fancasting.
When Swooon brought up the role of Addie LaRue to Cruel Intentions star Sarah Catherine Hook, who starred in Schwab’s First Kill adaptation, she quickly threw her name into the ring.

“Thank you for saying that! I would love to be Addie LaRue,” Hook said. “I loved the book. That was so fun. I would die. I would die to be Addie LaRue. That was such a great story.”
She added, “I have at least one freckle going for me. We can just add six more.” Hook, clearly knowing the material, was referring to the constellation of seven freckles on Addie’s face.
Schwab’s 2020 novel follows Addie LaRue, a young woman in 1714 who makes a bargain with the Dark to make her immortal. The catch? She’s cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets. Addie spends centuries living her life like a phantom. Luc, the darkness in human form, taunts her through the years and tries to convince her to surrender her soul to him.
In present-day New York City, Addie meets Henry, and he is the only one who can remember her. From there, a beautiful love story blooms, but their relationship is threatened by Henry’s own deal with the Dark.
“I think I can pass as someone who doesn’t look like they’ve ever seen an iPhone before,” Hook quipped when discussing Addie, who has to have a timeless essence that can pass in the 18th century as well as the 21st.
A film adaptation of Schwab’s novel was announced in 2020, per Variety. Schwab also wrote the script, but there has yet to be any major casting news.
