Every ‘Onyx Storm’ Release Party Happening At Independent Bookstores

Onyx Storm, the long-awaited third book in Rebecca Yarros‘ Fourth Wing series is finally coming to bookstores near you. As many know, romantasy has taken the literary world by storm (an onyx storm perhaps), and any booksellers who know their audience have taken this opportunity to throw their own release parties in honor of the book’s release on Tuesday, January 21.

Across the country, in bookstores, both big and small, hundreds of midnight and early bird release parties are being thrown to celebrate the release of the highly-anticipated novel. Longtime fans of the series have been chattering about ticketed events and pre-order sales dating back to October of last year—but there are still tickets, waitlists, and Deluxe Edition books for those who are still on the lookout.

Onyx Storm will follow Violet Sorrengail after her 18 months at Basgiath War College. According to the book’s synopsis, “Violet must journey beyond the failing Aretian wards to seek allies from unfamiliar lands to stand with Navarre. The trip will test every bit of her wit, luck, and strength, but she will do anything to save what she loves—her dragons, her family, her home, and him. Even if it means keeping a secret so big, it could destroy everything.”

Steamy Lit (Deerfield Beach, Florida)

Located in Deerfield Beach, Florida, Steamy Lit is hosting their own midnight release party. The event description reads, “Join the Steamy Lit team in celebrating the release of the third book in the Empyrean Series. This event includes crafts, treats and games.”

Blush & Bashful Romance Bookshop (Hopkinsville, Kentucky)

Blush & Bashful are throwing their own midnight release party. Their ticketed event includes an “Empyrean themed keychain, dragon, bookmark, tote bag, and decorated cookie!” Check out their event on their Instagram page here.

HEA Book Boutique (Marion, Iowa)

With tickets ranging from $35 to $55, HEA Book Boutique is celebrating the third of the Empyrean series with an event that includes a copy of the book along with a costume contest, DJ set, themed cocktails, and a pop-up that includes more Empyrean and dragon merchandise. Smitten Bookstore (Ventura, California)

Located in Southern California, Smitten Bookstore is throwing a party that includes a copy of Onyx Storm as well as games and giveaways. They’re offering cheaper tickets for those who can wait in line the day-of the festivities, and unlike the other events, their release party starts at 5:30 p.m. for any non-night owls. The beloved Manhattan bar is shutting its doors early for a private party for the ticket holders (and waitlist guests) to celebrate and receive the third book of the series. The $55 ticket includes Onyx Storm Cocktails, private access to the store and seating, trivia and games, as well as a free audiobook copy. Get your ticket here.

Trope Bookshop (Charlotte, North Carolina)

Trope Bookshop is teaming up with Cleary’s Bookstore for its late evening release party that features two drink tickets, light bites, an “exclusive swag bag,” and Empyrean trivia. The Last Chapter (Chicago, Illinois)

According to their Instagram post, the bookstore will offer “heavy snacks, crafts, best costume prizes, and a full performance with AJ Sacco, the magician, and Sally Marvel, the sword-and-fire-swallowing phenom.” Books will be handed out at midnight, but you definitely don’t want to miss the show. Under the Cover (Kansas City, Missouri)

This Kansas City romance bookstore is hosting their own midnight release party featuring costumes and prizes. You can get a ticket to the event by pre-ordering Onyx Storm on their website. Hurry now, before they sell out!

Beach Read Books (Wilmington, North Carolina)

This Wilmington-based bookstore is offering a rare unticketed event for the release of the third Empyrean novel starting at 12 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21. In honor of the lateness of the event, this location is throwing a pajama party and will be selling Deluxe Limited Edition copies at the store for walk-in customers as well. The small-town independent bookstore is throwing quite the Onyx Storm bash to celebrate the book’s release. The party will go down at the nearby Beer Lab by Ghostface Brewing. Your ticket includes a hardcover limited edition copy of Onyx Storm, one drink ticket from Ghostface Brewing, sweet treats, as well as fun games and prizes. There’s also a costume contest. Tropes & Trifles (Minneapolis, Minnesota)
