The Best Man will always have a special place in our rom-com loving hearts. The 1999 film featured an incredible ensemble cast that included Morris Chestnut, Taye Diggs, Nia Long, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Harold Perrineau, and more.

The success of the first film led to a holiday-themed sequel, The Best Man Holiday, followed by the critically-acclaimed limited series, The Best Man: The Final Chapters. But, was it really the curtain call for The Best Man franchise? Not if Chestnut has anything to say about it.

“I definitely want to come back to The Best Man franchise, and all of us are trying to…a few of us are reaching out to Malcolm [D.] Lee to try and convince him to do another one because that franchise has been around for a couple of decades now, and we want to make it into the third decade. I’d love to go back,” he told Swooon.

The Watson star played football star Lance Sullivan in the two movies and series. Chestnut loved that Lance was “the emotional driver” of the first film. “The films were funny, they were dramatic, but they were also emotional. It’s great for an audience to come to a movie and they’ll laugh, but I’ve been fortunate to play characters that make audiences feel and root for,” he noted.

Chestnut added, “They were rooting for Lance in the first Best Man when he was on that altar. They wanted him to marry. They wanted him to overcome the challenge and marry Mia. And then the second Best Man, they were rooting for him to break the rushing record, and hoping to spend more time with Mia before what happened there. So, audiences are always rooting for Lance, and they do a great job of crafting some great emotional scenes for him.”

The final scene of the limited series featured a two-year time jump to reveal what happened to Lance and his friends. After the tragic loss of Mia, Lance found love again with Jasmine (Yvonna Pearson).
