Will There Be a Season 3 of ‘Sex/Life?’ Sarah Shahi Weighs In

Season 2 of Sex/Life premiered on Netflix in March 2023, giving fans another six episodes to explore Billie (Sarah Shahi) and Brad’s (Adam Demos) passionate romance. Although they weren’t together for most of the season, they eventually reconciled and had their happily ever after.
The show ended with Billie and Brad tying the knot in a romantic beach wedding. At the altar, she told him she was pregnant, which was thrilling news for them, considering a past miscarriage had previously taken a major toll on their relationship and ultimately led to their breakup.
Even though everything seemed to be tied up in a pretty bow when the show ended, Billie’s life always seems to have complications. So, is the show returning for Season 3 to explore the couple’s future?
Was Sex/Life canceled?
Netflix canceled Sex/Life in April 2023. A spokesperson for Netflix told Deadline that Season 2 “brought the series to a natural close, wrapping up storylines for key characters whose relationships come to a happy conclusion.”
However, the timing of the cancellation was a bit suspicious to fans, as it came after Shahi made some controversial remarks about working on Season 2 of the show. “I’m not going to put it down, but I definitely did not have the support that I did the first season from the people involved in the show,” she admitted on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast. “It became a much different thing for me, and I’m not afraid to say that. I struggled with the material. I just felt the thing that it had the first season … I mean, I’m never gonna work for Netflix again now after saying all this, but I can’t lie. And it was definitely a challenge.”
She also said that moments in Season 2 “felt very gimmicky” to her. “Those kinds of things for me are always really hard to read,” the actress added. “But I didn’t have to do them. The boys did. There were other things that I just felt I couldn’t get behind, and it was just challenging. But that’s part of what I do! I’m not always gonna get along or agree with a filmmaker. I’m not always gonna like what I have to do or say. But that’s my job, to make it believable.”
Perhaps the most disappointing part, though, was how little she was working with Demos during Season 2. The actors started dating while filming Season 1 and were years into their real-life romance when they started working on the follow-up season.

“I was bummed that I wasn’t able to work with him as much because I really liked our stories and I like working with him,” she shared. “He was a brilliant scene partner. Also, what ended up happening is I was working so much and he was working so little. He’s like, in 60 seconds of the entire thing. I never saw him.”
Will Sex/Life return for Season 3?
Even though the show was canceled and there have been no plans for another network or streamer to pick it up, Shahi said she’s interested in exploring a future for Billie.
“I would love to do that,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in February 2025. “Especially with the way season two ended where, in a way, they’re at the very beginning of the Brad and Billie story. So if anyone is out there listening and would love to take a stab at that, I would be more than willing.”
Before the show was canceled, showrunner Stacy Rukeyser told Variety that she had plans for future seasons. “It’s definitely not intended to be a series finale. I believe there are always more stories to tell with these characters,” she confirmed. “We’d also be back to that prime question from Season 1, which is, can you have sex and life all at the same time? Especially as a new mom.”
