Game 7 is the center of the action in Running Point‘s Season 1 finale. The Los Angeles Waves go up against Portland in the playoffs, with Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson) cheering her team on from the sidelines. Despite being seconds away from victory, the Waves lose to Portland because of a half court shot.

However, the most surprising play comes after the game’s over. When the seats are all cleared out, it’s just Isla and Coach Jay (Jay Ellis). Isla thinks she let the team down, but Jay reassures her that the Waves wouldn’t have gotten this far without her. Isla tells Jay that she’s bummed over him moving to Boston (to live near his daughters and ex-wife), and that’s when Jay leans over to kiss her. Ellis spoke with Swooon about Jay and Isla’s kiss and the slow burn build-up.

“How the story plays out is something that was news to me, but it was a lot of fun to discover, to be honest with you, with Kate,” Ellie told Swooon at the show’s Paley Center event on February 26. “And really plotting when these two people kind of click and when they fall for each other and when the chemistry actually kicks in. It’s not just coworkers or boss/employee. So that was a really fun thing to kind of find along the way.”

So, is this the start of a slam dunk romance between Isla and Jay? “We’ll see,” Ellis said. “I think at the end of the day, you want Isla to be happy as she’s figuring out this new life as a boss and what that means for her. I think part of her finding herself, part of her finding her independence, part of her finding her voice is through her relationship with Jay.”

Isla’s still got to deal with what’s happening with Lev (Max Greenfield), her fiancé of six years. When Isla misses Lev getting an award to take Travis (Chet Hanks) to rehab, Lev moves out of their place and takes a new job in Minnesota. Isla attempts to get Lev to stay in Los Angeles, but he hasn’t made a final decision. He notably doesn’t show up for Game 7.

Do you think Isla should stay with Lev? Or should she explore something more with Jay? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
