Will Meredith Get Married Again on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’? Showrunner Teases Her Future With Nick
Derek Shepherd’s (Patrick Dempsey) 10th death anniversary (RIP) is coming up in April, and fans of Grey’s Anatomy are still mourning him. As McDreamy’s life ended, so did the relationship between him and his love, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo).
In the aftermath of his death, Meredith went through all the stages of grief. It took her years (and many suitors) to find another person to fill the gap Derek left behind. Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman) has become Meredith’s second great love. So, now that they’re very serious about each other, will these two ever get married?
“Well, he’s the one after Derek,” showrunner Meg Marinis told The Los Angeles Times. “A lot of discussion happens because everybody is always asking, ‘Will she get married again? Will she do this again?'” Marinis began. “I don’t think it’s so much about marriage, but the fact that the two of them have now merged their lives together at the end of last season. I think that’s a sign for fans to think that he is the one.”
Meredith and Nick have faced their fair share of hiccups, but they’ve always managed to emerge on the other side together.
“He also is somebody who respects the life that she had before him, and he’s never going to try to replace that,” Marinis noted. “He might like to get married, but he knows who Meredith is, and he’s never going to push that on her.”
The showrunner pointed out that Nick actually “challenges her in ways that people since Derek have not, which also makes me think that he is her equal. He’s going to push back when he feels like he’s being pushed away.”
While there are no plans to make things official yet, in the world of Grey’s Anatomy, anything can happen. Now that we’re halfway through Season 21, it’s hard to imagine that the two of them will tie the knot before the finale. Maybe next season? Although not officially confirmed yet, the hit series will likely return. Who wouldn’t want to see Meredith say “I do” again?
