Carolina Sofía Quixano was considered a divisive person in Grant Ellis‘ season of The Bachelor. Getting “the villain” edit, the Puerto Rico native was not shown in the most positive light. The 28-year-old’s stint on the hit series became a troubling one for her.

Now, she is opening up about her side of The Bachelor experience. One thing is for certain: She is done letting all the hate comments get to her. Instead, Carolina is trying to focus on the ones helping her move forward.

“Six months ago, a really happy girl walked into the Bachelor mansion expecting the most amazing experience of her life,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories. “I figured if I didn’t find romantic love, I’d at least find lifelong friendships. I could’ve never imagined it would become my biggest nightmare.”

Throughout her run on The Bachelor, Carolina was always in the middle of the drama. Her first controversy began when she and Rose Sombke debated over who Grant was thinking of while Carolina gave him a special dance during the talent show section of the second episode. Her relationship with the other contestants never picked up after that. She was eventually sent home during Week 5.

In her message, Carolina also gave the fandom more insight into how she’s felt ever since she finished filming the show. “Since then my mental health has plummeted to an all-time low,” she began. The public relations producer confessed, “Living it was the worst experience of my life, and having to sit with it months in anticipation for what I would see on TV was excruciating. I fully convinced myself that I MUST have been completely aloof to my actions to warrant such hate, and I was bracing myself to be hit with reality when I watched it back.”

Yet, that wasn’t exactly what happened. “To be completely honest, even with the narrative that was shown, I simply cannot understand the piling on anyone when they’re already down,” she noted.

“I completely lost all sense of self in this experience, and I allowed the light personality that first stepped into the house to be dimmed just trying to be less disruptive.” She admitted, “I never wanted to be the ‘crazy and evil’ one.”

Carolina further added, “I didn’t want to be involved in any of the arguments brought against me and I tried to shut them down without going as low as some where coming at me. It’s hard to stay positive in an environment where everyone’s decided to view you negatively.” She said she’s “trying to heal and do better.”

The most important part of her message was at the end. Having seen a lot of hate comments during the roll-out, she took time to show appreciation for those who have supported her. “Sincerely want to thank every single person that’s sent me an encouraging message. Many of you have started by saying, ‘I know you probably won’t read this,’ and just know I AM reading them and you taking out of your day to show someone kindness means a lot. If you’re new here I hope you’ll stick around to see the most authentic version of myself in safer environments. I’m so glad you are here,” she said.
