Did Michael & Sara End Up Together on ‘Prison Break’? How Their Love Story Wrapped Up

When Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) devised a plan to break his brother Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) out of prison on Prison Break, he knew he’d need access to the infirmary at Fox River State Penitentiary. However, he probably didn’t expect to fall in love with the doctor, Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies), who worked there.
That’s just what happened, though, and throughout the series, Michael and Sara made sacrifice after sacrifice for each other as they fought to stay alive. When Michael thought that Sara died in Season 3, he was ready to do whatever it took to avenge her death (turns out she was alive the whole time, but that’s a refresh for another day).
But after all that Michael and Sara went through, did they actually end up together? Since Prison Break technically had two series finales — the show concluded in 2009, but was revived for an additional season in 2017 — there’s a lot to remember when it comes to how things played out. Plus, there’s now a reboot in the works! Scroll down for a refresh!
Did Michael and Sara end up together on Prison Break?
Of course. These two are meant to be. The original series finale, which was the end of Season 4, ended with a flash forward that showed Sara, the couple’s son, Mike Jr., and more coming together at Michael’s grave. Michael had surgery for a brain tumor earlier in the season, but when his nose bleeds returned in the series finale, it seemed the writing was on the wall for his character. After all he sacrificed for others, it was devastating that an untimely death was seemingly going to end his story.

However, his “death” came after he received immunity alongside his brother, which was what he wanted all along.
More insight into how Sara and Michael’s relationship ended after the original series was seen in Prison Break: The Final Break, which aired in May 2009 after the series finale. The show was back in its original timeline. After being exonerated, Michael and Sara got married and had some brief moments of happiness together. However, she was eventually arrested for killing his (evil) mother, Christina (Kathleen Quinlan), in the Season 4 finale.
With Sara in prison, Michael planned one more prison break to save his wife. The TV movie special revealed that Michael actually “died” while making sure Sara got out safely. He was electrocuted while causing a short circuit in the prison break plot. Since he knew he didn’t have much time left due to the brain tumor anyway, it was a worthy sacrifice.
When the show came back for Season 5, it was revealed that Michael had actually been alive the whole time and was living under a new name while locked up at Ogygia Prison in Yemen. Meanwhile, Sara was remarried to Jacob Ness (Mark Feuerstein), who ended up being the man behind Michael’s disappearance. It turns out Michael never actually died in The Final Break. Rather, he was forced into working for Ness, otherwise known as Poseidon, in order to ensure safety for his family. He had to cut off contact with his family and help Ness break terrorists and other rogue agents out of prison in order to ensure the safety of Sara, Mike Jr., and his other loved ones.
After Michael broke out of Ogygia, he made it his mission to get Jacob, who had also framed him for murder, back. His plot was successful, and in the Season 5 finale, he was finally a free man (for real). Michael, Sara, and their son got their happily ever after, as seen in one of the final scenes of the show that showed them in a park together.
Who did Lincoln end up with on Prison Break?
While romance was never a pivotal part of Lincoln’s storyline, he had a love interest in Season 5, too. Lincoln ended up with Sheba (Inbar Lavi), the woman who helped him and C-Note (Rockmond Dunbar) find Michael in Ogygia Prison when they found out he was alive.

The ending scene of Michael, Sara, and MJ at the park also featured Lincoln and Sheba, confirming that they were still together as well.
But what about Sofia (Danay Garcia), who Linc seemingly ended up with at the end of Season 4? The two met in Season 3 when she was the girlfriend of James Whistler (Chris Vance). Whistler was locked up in Sona, and “the Company” put Michael there to get him out. Sofia and Lincoln were helping on the outside and developed a connection.

Sofia was by Lincoln’s side when the group reunited at Michael’s grave in the Season 4 finale, revealing that they stayed together in the years after he was given immunity. However, she did not return for the revival, and there was no explanation given as to what happened between them. Rather, viewers had to just assume that they split at some point before the events of 2017.
