Elisabeth Hasselbeck and husband Tim Hasselbeck made a major change in their household in recent years. The former cohost of The View is opening about what they’ve introduced to their family.

The former Survivor contestant released her new children’s book on March 25 and revealed the family update while promoting the publication.

The Hasselbecks have become passionate about being interim foster care providers, which means they provide temporary housing for infants while they wait for a permanent solution. “I didn’t know it was possible until I saw an amazing friend of mine doing it so naturally and wonderfully and she showed me the ropes,” Elisabeth told People.

Elisabeth and Tim’s three children are all teenagers now, so having babies around is obviously an adjustment. However, Elisabeth said that fostering simply called to her.

“I asked [Tim] if we should be doing this, and God put it on our hearts,” she shared. “It’s been four years of just welcoming little ones in, who really do more for our hearts than we ever do for theirs.”

In her new children’s book, God’s Masterpiece, Elisabeth tells the story of two children walking through an art museum and seeing how the artwork “reflects the artist’s God-given creativity.”

“When our kids are under a lot of pressure [with] tons of comparison, I do think identity is under threat,” she admitted. “We don’t get to say who we are, we have a God that determines that, and we’re all still works in progress. I think if we can see each other as His amazing, unique masterpieces, differently, wildly beautifully made [in] His workmanship, then we treat each other that way too. Not just ‘Oh, I’m a masterpiece, but guess what, you’re a masterpiece too. And you’re a masterpiece out there.’ We get to look at each other and treat each other as valuable, high worth creations.”
