The White Lotus aired its most dramatic season finale yet on April 6. With tons of murderous plots happening around the resort, only a few of those actually ended in death.

Two of the deaths left viewers devastated. Yes, of course we’re talking about Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) and Rick (Walton Goggins). The odd couple seemingly had more differences than similarities, but their love prevailed against the odds.

To pay homage to his White Lotus storyline and onscreen romantic partner Wood, Goggins penned a heartfelt message and shared a series of photos. “Rick + Chelsea. With the heaviest of hearts… To me, ours was a love story,” his Instagram note began.

He explained, “It was only ever a love story, hindered by unresolved, childhood trauma. We all have them… but can we move past them. In the depths of our despair there is always beauty around us. If we can sit with our pain, just sit with it… not react… not be defined by it…It’s there… the love the world is constantly giving in any given moment is there. Always waiting for us to see it… Trust me I know.”

While Goggins has the emotional depth to recognize Rick’s hurt could’ve been transformed, his character did not. Throughout Season 3, it became clear that something would happen to the mismatched item.

In an epic line of foreshadowing, Chelsea professed, “At this point, we’re linked, so if a bad thing happens to you, it happens to me. I think we’re going to be together forever, don’t you?” But that wasn’t the only hint that Chelsea would meet an untimely fate. She endured two near-death experiences, and then her “bad things come in threes” omen was proven correct. She was caught up in the gunfire after Rick killed his own father, which he didn’t learn until after the murder. Rick quickly followed Chelsea into the afterlife when Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong), the sensitive security guard, finally pulled the trigger.

Reminiscing about his time on the hit series, Goggins shared his gratitude with his followers. “Thank you Mike White for your imagination, your tender heart, for the privilege of giving us the opportunity to tell it. Thank you Aimee Lou for being my partner… a journey I will never forget. Sammy Rock for being the best wing man a fella could ask for. And every stellar fucking actor in this cast…. You’re just incredible to watch. Bernad, John, Ben, Kamine… and this whole crew. I love you. We’ll always have Thailand. And to all of you…thank you for going on this journey with us.”
