Who Is CNN Anchor Abby Phillip’s Husband? Inside Her Marriage to Marcus Richardson
When Abby Phillip isn’t behind the news desk, she’s at home dedicated to the family she’s created with husband Marcus Richardson.
The journalist has been with CNN since 2017 when she joined as a White House correspondent, having previously worked for Politico, The Washington Post, and ABC News. In 2021, she became the weekend anchor for Inside Politics. When the news network underwent a major programming overhaul in 2023, Phillip became the host of a new show, CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip, which airs during the 10 p.m. weekday hour.

Who is Abby Phillip’s husband?
Richardson is a cybersecurity consultant. He’s worked as the principal cloud security architect for Cloud Security Partners since 2020, according to his LinkedIn. He’s also the “founder and principal” of Oak Keep Consulting, which he started in 2019.
Phillip’s husband graduated from Florida State University with a degree in international affairs in 2009.
How did Abby Phillip meet her husband?
Phillip and Richardson both met while attending a mutual friend’s party in 2011. The event look place on a rooftop in Washington D.C., and they ended up talking since they both didn’t know many other people at the gathering.
“We were creating an awesome connection, when suddenly another woman interrupted,” Richardson told MarthaStewart.com. “I was like, ‘Whoa, her friend is trying to save her from me,’ and we went our separate ways.” Before the interruption, the two discussed “their love of languages, music, travel, and food.”

Well, Phillip actually didn’t even know the woman who interrupted. Luckily, the two crossed paths again when the same friend threw another party. “I didn’t expect to ever see him again, but part of me hoped he might be there,” Phillip admitted.
This time, they exchanged contact information and officially began dating just a week later.
When did Abby and Marcus get married?
Richardson asked Phillip to marry him during the 2016 holiday season. The couple had just moved into a new apartment and were hosting both of their families when he popped the question. They got married on May 26, 2018, at Anderson House in Washington D.C.
Their nuptials were an intimate affair with just 90 people in attendance. “My most memorable moment was watching Abby descend the staircase with her parents,” Richardson admitted. “It was a magical moment. So often you see brides walk down the aisle, so seeing her come down these large, ornate stairs in her gorgeous dress made the moment very real and very special.”
Does Abby Phillip have kids?
Yes, Phillip shares one daughter with Richardson. Their daughter, Naomi, was born in August 2021.
“Marcus and I are so happy to announce that the Naomi Angelina Richardson arrived bright and early on Monday morning perfectly happy, healthy and ready to eat,” Phillip shared on Instagram at the time. “Mom and baby are feeling great. Naomi arrived 10 days fashionably late, weighing a healthy 7 pounds 6 oz and measuring at 20.5 inches. Her first name means ‘pleasant one’ and she is already living up to it and spoiling her mom and dad as a blissfully calm baby. Her middle name Angelina is a tribute to my beloved maternal grandmother who passed away in 2014.”
Where does Abby Phillip live?
Phillip and her family live in New York City. They moved to the Big Apple from Washington D.C. at the end of 2023.
“One beautiful, hectic, fun year in New York City. We love it here,” the journalist wrote on Instagram in December 2024.
