‘Outlander’ Author Diana Gabaldon Reveals Book 10 Title: What Does It Mean For Jamie’s Fate?

Outlander‘s TV run will end with the upcoming eighth season on Starz, but Diana Gabaldon‘s book series, upon which the show is based, will span 10 books by the time her final novel for the flagship series is complete. Outlander fans, we’re that much closer to knowing the outcome of Jamie and Claire’s love story.
In a new Facebook post, Gabaldon finally revealed the title of her long-awaited tenth book from the series. Fans can refer to it as A Blessing for a Warrior Going Out. But what could it possibly mean, especially for Highlander warrior Jamie? Will the tenth book be as ominous as it sounds?
Gabaldon attempted to put fans’ worries to rest. “NO, that doesn’t mean Jamie’s going to die. It’s not a death blessing, it’s the Blessing of St. Michael, said for a warrior about to go and do something important and possibly dangerous,” she explained. “There are quite a few people in this book who qualify for that blessing, believe me…”

In other words, don’t let the title scare you. Jamie Fraser, King of Men, remains safe for now. But could the warrior in reference be someone else? Only time will tell.
A Blessing for a Warrior Going Out follows Gabaldon’s other entries for the series, Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager, Drums of Autumn, The Fiery Cross, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, An Echo in the Bone, Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, and Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone.
In addition to unveiling the newest book title, Gabaldon also reconfirmed that A Blessing for a Warrior Going Out is the final book of the main series. However, she noted that “there may be other companion books and side stories, depending on how long I live.”
While a publication date hasn’t been set for the final book, fans can at least look forward to Starz’s upcoming prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which will chronicle the love story between Jamie’s parents, Ellen and Brian, in 18th-century Scotland, and Claire’s parents, Julia and Henry, amid World War I in England.
Gabaldon previously revealed to TV Insider, “I have material for three — relatively short, as compared to the main Outlander novels — prequel books concerning Jamie’s parents. Blood of My Blood is based on the synopsis of the first of those books.” In other words, the prequels could be among the side stories Gabaldon referenced in her most recent social media post to fans.
