For all the Bachelor Nation fans hoping to see New Jersey native Greg Grippo on the beach this summer, we’ve got some bad news for you…

On May 19, Grippo went on Next Gen NYC and The Real Housewives of New Jersey star Gia Giudice’s podcast, Casual Chaos. While this means Grippo may not be gracing our screens on Bachelor in Paradise Season 10, which is currently filming in Costa Rica, the former Bachelorette star got candid about his time on Katie Thurston‘s season of The Bachelorette.

During Season 17 of the reality dating show, Grippo self-eliminated following his hometown date. At the time, our partner site TV Insider recapped that “he [called] her out for being cold when he told her he was in love with her,” which led him to leave. “As much as it hurts me, I’ve reached my breaking point,” Grippo said at the time.

Grippo told Giudice that the saddest part of his Bachelorette departure was that he and Thurston left things off on “not the greatest terms.” While he and Thurston “made amends” right after the show stopped filming, he confessed to Guidice, “In the midst of it all, I wish I handled things differently.”

Upon hearing his remorse four years after their breakup, Giudice asked what everyone was thinking at the time: Does he wish he had stayed?

Grippo shared: “I was in the airport right after I said it, and I remember I was really regretful of leaving.” He continued, “I kind of almost attempted to [go back]. I was texting producers nonstop, you know, trying to go back and trying to see if she was engaged or not.”

While much of Bachelor Nation (including us) was Team Greg all the way, viewers will recall, Thurston got engaged to Blake Moynes at the end of her season, making Grippo’s attempts to return to the competition too little, too late. He shared: “I didn’t get any reply, and I realized at that time… This maybe wasn’t the right setting for me to be in this point in time.”

While both Thurston and Grippo have moved on from their time in the Bachelor Nation spotlight, if Grippo had returned to the competition, the outcome of the season may have looked completely different.
