’Tell Me Lies’: Grace Van Patten, Jackson White Reveal Details of Axed Lucy & Stephen Sex Scene
Whether it’s onscreen as Lucy Albright and Stephen DeMarco, or as a real-life couple, if there is one thing Tell Me Lies stars Grace Van Patten and Jackson White have, it’s undeniable chemistry.
When Swooon sat down with the Tell Me Lies stars to break down Lucy and Stephen’s relationship timeline, the duo took us behind the scenes of the Season 1 episode “And I’m Sorry If I Dissed You” to tell us about a scene that didn’t make the final cut.
Van Patten shared the “fun fact” that following Stephen’s first breakdown in front of Lucy at the Baird greenhouse, which comes after she confronts him about knowing Macy, “there was a love scene” between Stephen and Lucy. However, as Van Patten put it: “We were acting it, and we were like ‘I don’t think… I don’t know if this works.'”
White remembered the moment a little differently, claiming, “Well, she did. She was like, ‘Maybe we shouldn’t have sex.’ He recalled saying, “Are you sure?”
Regardless, Van Patten shared that the two of them went to the showrunner, Meaghan Oppenheimer, asking if they should cut the scene. Her response? “Yeah, absolutely.” According to Van Patten, the scene was cut right then and there.
As White put it, “It was supposed to be like: ‘I killed her! I was there!’ And then [Stephen and Lucy] fall to the ground and make sweet love.”
According to the stars, the deleted scene became an inside joke on set. “There were even T-shirts made,” Van Patten revealed. Of course, White chimed in to share that he has one of the shirts, which read: “I had sex in the Baird greenhouse and all I got was this T-shirt.”
With the knowledge of this deleted scene and the T-shirts that come with it, we just have one thing to say: It’s about time you show us your Baird greenhouse T-shirt, Jackson White. If only to tide fans over until Season 3 is released!
