Leighton Meester Reveals Why She & Adam Brody Never Had a Wedding

Leighton Meester and Adam Brody became the ultimate millennial power couple when they tied the knot in 2014. However, as it turns out, these two didn’t have a typical wedding.
The actors, who famously played Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl and Seth Cohen on The O.C., preferred a low-key affair, one that didn’t involve a white wedding dress and a huge reception. In a rare interview, Meester opened up about why she and Brody opted against a wedding.
“On sets and in life, I’ve been able to wear a fancy dress and hit a mark and say lines, and I didn’t want it to feel like that,” she told Bustle. “I wanted it to feel intimate and private.”
The couple first met in 2007 when they were introduced by Josh Schwartz, who produced Gossip Girl and The O.C. They crossed paths again as costars in The Oranges and started dating in 2013. They got engaged that same year and married in 2014. Meester and Brody have since welcomed two children.
Meester admitted that she’s turned down many roles over the years because she doesn’t want to be away from her family. “I’m sure a lot of people feel this way, but I’m especially not into it,” she said. “Obviously, for the very right thing, I would probably just be like, ‘Let’s figure it out.’ I mean, I’m not going to leave my family for a year. We’re not doing that. But apart from that, we have a good system in place, where I can consider jobs carefully. And every other piece of life.”
The Country Strong star will appear in the upcoming second season of The Buccaneers, which was filmed in Scotland. Her two kids joined her for the shoot.
Over the years, Brody and Meester have always supported each other’s projects. Meester will have a recurring role in Season 2 of her husband’s hit rom-com series Nobody Wants This. Brody made an appearance in Meester’s latest show, Good Cop/Bad Cop, and played the ex-boyfriend of Meester’s character in the short-lived ABC comedy Single Parents.
