Willie Robertson and Korie Robertson met at summer camp when they were just kids. Although they attended different schools, they would run into each other at youth group throughout the year and ended up tying the knot after graduating high school.

In January, the longtime loves celebrated 33 years of marriage. During their years together, they’ve welcomed three biological kids and adopted three children, all of whom are adults now. Through it all, they’ve managed to keep their relationship strong, and Korie opened up to Swooon about their secret to making it work.

“We have a lot of fun together,” she says. “We laugh a lot. One of our family mottos is, ‘Just be able to laugh at yourself.’ And we do. We just find joy in life. I think it is that coming back together. In any couple, there’s moments where you feel like you’re going further apart, but turn back in together, rather than going in the other direction, is always something that I kind of thought of.”

The Robertsons starred on Duck Dynasty from 2012 to 2017 and are now returning to TV with Duck Dynasty: The Revival, which will have Willie and Korie at the helm. “I think our show kind of symbolizes [coming together] a little bit,” Korie adds. “At the end of the day, we all come around at the dinner table. It’s like, whatever’s happening in life, we may be all going different directions, or we might fuss and fight, or we might have a disagreement here, but at the end of the day, we all come around a dinner table together and thank God for what we have.”

The Robertson family recently had to deal with a devastating loss when Willie’s father, Phil Robertson, died at the age of 79. Plus, Willie’s mother, Kay Robertson, has been dealing with her own health issues. Korie praised her husband for “honoring his parents and loving them through this,” which she said has “been so special.”
