Emily Henry’s Best Quotes From ‘Great Big Beautiful Life,’ Explained By a Superfan (VIDEO)
Drama King Books is fully immersed in the Emily Henry Universe. The book influencer, whose real name is Seth, fell in love with Henry’s writing after a recommendation from a friend. After diving into Beach Read, Drama King Books was hooked—and the rest is history. “I have never stopped loving her since,” he told Swooon.
If you take a look at his Instagram page, Drama King Books is a dedicated Emily Henry stan. With the recent release of Great Big Beautiful Life, Swooon had to have Drama King Books break down his favorite quotes from Henry’s latest novel. Before diving into the book’s best lines, the book influencer took a moment to acknowledge the dedication—”For my mom and my three grandmothers. Life is complicated. Your love never was.”—which he thought was a great prelude to what the book’s truly about.
One of the best quotes in Great Big Beautiful Life, according to Drama King Books, is one that has nothing to do with romance: “Love isn’t something you can cup in your hands, and I have to believe that means it’s something that can’t ever be lost.” He explained, “It’s not about love in a romantic way. It’s about love in a familial way. And I think that’s so poignant to talk about love in a way that… It’s not something that you can hold on to. It’s something you keep. It’s just something that lasts and lives in you.”

The quote refers to Alice’s father, who died before the events of the novel. In addition to exploring Margaret Ives’ illustrious history and headline-grabbing family, while competing against fellow journalist (and eventual love interest) Hayden, Alice continues to grapple with her grief over the loss of her father. Drama King Books enjoyed how Henry dealt with a topic like grief and how it’s not something that “leaves you. It’s something that you live with.”
Like the millions of Emily Henry readers out there, Drama King Books swooned over Alice and Hayden’s love story just like the rest of us. Case in point? This quote: “After more than three decades on this planet, all it took was a few weeks and the right person to entirely rearrange my composition.”
Drama King Books explained, “I feel like in so many romances we see the whole book is them falling in love and then there’s either a third act breakup or we see them face something. In this book, something I’ve always said since reading it is Alice… there’s nothing she really needs to overcome to fall in love with someone. It’s just finding the right person, and he has rearranged her in a way that they fit together right.”
One of his favorite GBBL quotes comes from the final chapter: “It’s a love story. Like everything I write, that’s what it comes down to. That’s what always matters most to me, about any interview subject: Whom do love? What makes your heart beat? For whom would you unmake the world, and how would you build a new one?”
The book lover elaborated, “The idea of who would you unmake the world for, like that says so much about how a person has impacted you,” whether that be a partner, parent, or a friend.
Great Big Beautiful Life is a romance, yes, but Henry’s newest book is truly about the many paths love can take. It’s a unicursal labyrinth, to borrow a term used in the novel. There are branching paths, whether they be romantic or platonic or familial, and they all lead straight back to the heart.
