Who Is Joanna Cassidy? All About the Actress Dating Suzanne Somers’ Husband
Nearly two years after Suzanne Somers‘ death, her widow, Alan Hamel, has moved on romantically. The former television host is now dating Joanna Cassidy, an actress who actually starred alongside Somers in the 1985 series Hollywood Wives.

What has Joanna Cassidy been in?
Cassidy began her entertainment career as a model in the 1960s. Her first major film appearance was in The Outfit in 1973. Some of her other early roles included appearances in television series’ like Mission: Impossible, Taxi, Starsky & Hutch, Dallas, and more. She was also a regular on Buffalo Bill, a role she earned a Golden Globe win and Emmy nomination.
Her breakthrough film performance was in 1982’s Blade Runner. Other performances included Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Package, Where the Heart Is, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, and Ghosts of Mars.
In more recent years, she’s starred in Six Feet Under, Body of Proof, Bones, Odd Mom Out, NCIS: New Orleans, Younger, Matlock, and more.
How did Joanna Cassidy and Alan Hamel meet?
Hamel and Cassidy have actually known each other since the 1970s. They first met when she was a guest on The Alan Hamel Show in Canada, Hamel told Fox News.
“She was a great guest, and it was a dynamic show, and we liked each other,” he gushed. “Not romantically, but mainly with respect. Both of us were married at the time.” (Hamel was married to his first wife, Marilyn Hamel, whom he shares two children with, from 1958 to 1971. He wed Somers in 1977).
The two also spent time together while Somers and Cassidy were filming Hollywood Wives, and recently reconnected thanks to Hamel’s son Stephen, who met Cassidy at a film screening and later introduced her to his dad, not knowing that they already knew each other. “After a long conversation, [Stephen] suggested to Joanna that she and [I] would get along and should meet,” Hamel explained.

He also hinted that Somers would have approved of the relationship. “Suzanne‘s last few days, she told me twice ‘Don’t mope around. Live your life. We will see one another after you cross over,’” he shared. “I’m fortunate to have Joanna in my life. Most men would love to have a Joanna in their life.”

Cassidy was previously married on time. She wed Kennard C. Kobrin in 1964 and divorced him 10 years later.
Does Joanna Cassidy have kids?
Cassidy and Kobrin had two children, son Daniel and daughter Naomi, during their relationship.
