[Warning: The below contains spoilers for The Bear Season 4.]

We may or may not have let out a little scream when a certain someone reappeared in The Bear Season 4. Yes, we’re talking about Will Poulter’s Luca, whose entrance was nothing short of legendary in Episode 5.

While the restaurant struggles to get out of the financial red zone, Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) introduces the chef as Marcus’ (Lionel Boyce) “firepower,” revealing that he’s the new pastry stage. Fans will remember that Carmy sent Marcus to study under Luca in Copenhagen in Season 2, so now their roles have pretty much flip-flopped.

The former mentor and mentee, who developed a solid friendship, are happy to join forces. We felt just as giddy watching the two interact again. Marcus and Luca had a ton of chemistry in Copenhagen, but it was off the charts in Season 4. We didn’t clock any romantic potential between them back then — some viewers did — but we’re seeing the vision now.

We can’t help but wonder: Could The Bear really be laying the groundwork for Marcus and Lucas to get together romantically? Walk with us.

First, we have to admit that Luca is one of those characters who seems to vibe with everyone, not just Marcus. (It’s probably because Luca takes a lighter approach to his craft, and he doesn’t let it negatively affect his relationships with his coworkers. Take notes, Carmy!)

For one, Luca had another cute moment with Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) this season after they bonded during the “funeral” for the restaurant Ever back in Season 3. They had a lengthy, banter-filled conversation about their lives. It was so charming that one of our writers made a case that they should become an item.

We wouldn’t be opposed to that either, but now that Luca plans on staying in Chicago for a few months, we think that the show might explore his connection with Marcus in a different light. Especially now that he might stay with The Bear team longterm, once Carmy steps down from his position as head chef. Luca is bound to keep helping out in Season 5, at the very least.

Marcus and Luca didn’t get nearly enough screen time together, but there was one certain scene in Episode 8 that planted the seed in our heads. While they prep for service, Marcus confesses that he bailed on breakfast with his dad. Marcus has a difficult relationship with him, and he rarely opens up to anyone about their issues, aside from one brief conversation with Carmy. So, him telling Luca further confirms that they have a close bond built on trust.

Then, there was a more comedic moment in Episode 9 between Luca, Marcus, and Chester, Marcus’ friend, roommate, and real estate agent. Chester shows up in the kitchen to get some signatures, and he immediately starts acting flustered and intimidated when he sees Luca. Whether Chester has a crush or is scared of losing his friend to Luca is up for debate, but either way, it could be some sort of foreshadowing.

The show has traditionally avoided workplace romances — SydCarmy still not being a thing is proof enough of that — but we think that Marcus and Luca could be something great. Not to mention, aside from that unrequited crush he had on Sydney a few seasons ago, Marcus hasn’t had a romance yet. He deserves some happiness!
