LeAnn Rimes Makes Rare Comments About Eddie Cibrian Affair
Sixteen years after LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian made headlines for their affair, the country singer is opening up about the highly-publicized ordeal. Rimes, who has been married to Cibrian since 2011, doesn’t often talk about the situation, but made rare comments in an interview with Flow Space.
At the time of the affair, Rimes was married to Dean Sheremet and Cibrian was married to Brandi Glanville, whom he shares two children with. Those marriages ended when Rimes and Cibrian decided they wanted to officially be together.
“Starting as a child star, [I had] all this protection,” Rimes explained in the interview. “But it was like, if I want to live a fulfilling life, I’ve got to learn how to let that guard down. To me, it was either I was going to die, or I had to confront it. It was complete survival.”
Rimes reflected on the “craziness” of that time in her life and opened up about the public’s reaction to the affair.
“I realized very quickly that there are a lot of women who’ve been hurt,” she shared. “Like, I’ve been on both sides of that coin. I’ve been cheated on, too, so I know that feeling. But so many women don’t know what to do with that anger. I was a target that was just easily projected upon. And once I realized that, things got a lot easier. Instead of taking it so personally, it’s like, look, this is not all my pain to carry.”
The “I Need You” singer added, “I know what I’m responsible for in the situation and making amends for that. But you know, the world’s pain is not mine to carry. And I think that really got thrown at me for a long time.”
Rimes and Cibrian now have a civil relationship with Glanville, and they’ve blended their families to care for Cibrian and Glanville’s two teenage sons. “I think I’ve gone from survival to thriving to — if there is a level up from thriving — to truly living,” Rimes admitted. “I think that’s where I’m headed.”
