When does Catch of the Day premiere?
Catch of the Day will premiere on Hallmark on August 30. The Hallmark original film will wrap up the Summer Nights programming, so be on the lookout for Hallmark’s fall movies in the weeks ahead!
Who is in the Catch of the Day cast?
Hallmark has assembled quite the crew for Catch of the Day. Emilie Ullerup, best known for playing Bree O’Brien in Hallmark’s Chesapeake Shores, stars as Sophie. Michael Rady, who’s starred in several Hallmark films, including The Christmas Bow and Love to the Rescue, stars as Cam.
The Kitchen cohost Katie Lee Biegel also makes a cameo as a food blogger who plays a pivotal role in the plot. Catch of the Day is her second film with Hallmark and will mark her screenwriting debut. Her book, Groundswell, was adapted into a 2022 Hallmark movie starring Lacey Chabert.
“I am so thrilled to be working with Hallmark again!” Katie Lee said in a statement. “I have long enjoyed their positive, feel-good programming, and it was an incredible experience to write my first film with their support. Hallmark’s audience has an insatiable hunger for inspiring narratives, and I can’t wait for fans to have a taste of what we have cooked up together.”

In a June 27 Instagram post, Biegel opened up about bringing Catch of the Day to life. “This is the first film I have written, and I also produced and had a cameo,” she began. “It was an extraordinary experience! I love Hallmark movies and the way they make me feel, so this is a dream come true. The east end of Long Island is very close to my heart, and I had the idea to for this story as I have watched more and more ‘mom and pop’ places move out. Catch of the Day is set in Montauk, and is a story of returning to your roots, the restaurant business, love, and discovering what you really need maybe isn’t what you thought you wanted at all.”
What is Catch of the Day about?
According to Hallmark, Catch of the Day follows Sophie, a rising culinary star on the verge of becoming executive chef at a high-end Manhattan restaurant. But when her sister Abigail calls with news that their beloved family seafood spot in Montauk is floundering, Sophie returns home to help. What was meant to be a short visit turns into a journey of rediscovery, of her roots, her passion for cooking, and a surprising second chance at love with her teenage crush, Cam, a local fisherman whose quiet strength and charm leave Sophie rethinking everything she thought she wanted.
“This all started with Katie Lee’s vision of exploring a woman who is pulled between two culinary worlds and ultimately falls in love with her family’s legacy, leaving the fine dining world behind to reconnect to her roots,” Laura Gaines, VP of Development at Hallmark Media, said in a statement. “Andrea Canning came aboard to help us craft the script and we were lucky enough to bring in Jessica Harmon to direct and Elizabeth Friedman to executive produce. And just when I felt the project wouldn’t get any stronger, Emilie Ullerup and Michael Rady said yes! This was a dream to work on and has already become a treasured title here at the network. We can’t wait to share it with the world this August.”
