Grab Your Bestie! Tinder’s New Double Date Feature, Explained

Wallet, keys, phone, bestie… the list of everything you need to remember when leaving for your Tinder date just got a little bit longer.
In June 2025, online dating platform Tinder announced a new feature that completely changes the game for online daters. The “It Starts With a Swipe” app has released an update where friends can partner up to match with other single duos.
According to Tinder, the feature was “across key international markets and found that nearly 90% of Double Date profiles came from users under 29—a clear sign of strong adoption among Gen Z and younger Millennials.” As Tinder puts it, this is because they believe that Gen Z “often approaches dating as a team sport.”

What is Tinder’s Double Date feature?
Tinder’s Double Date feature allows users to team up with a friend to match with pairs of friends, alongside their typical one-on-one matches. Designed to alleviate some of the pressure involved in dating online, Tinder’s newest feature is “a low-pressure, group-first way to explore the world of dating side by side.” From there, daters can either go out together or Swipe Right on an individual in their newly created groupchat.
How do you use Tinder’s Double Date feature?
As long as you have a friend on the app, Tinder’s Double Date feature is easy to use! To begin, users can head to their profile screen (the rightmost icon on the bottom menu) and click “Try Double Date.” From there, you can accept invites from friends and/or invite up to three people to pair up with. Once you are paired, you can continue to swipe through profiles in the same manner as before. However, some of the profiles you can swipe right on will be other groups of two friends.
To create a Double Date match, one person from each duo needs to like the other duo’s profile. When a match is formed, all four daters get put in a group chat. Tinder suggests using this group chat to make plans ASAP. With a buddy at your side, you can “limit the small talk and stress.” Tinder believes “dating shouldn’t feel like a job interview.”
Does Tinder’s Double Date feature work?
Tinder’s Double Date is still new, but according to the dating app, early users have found more success when using the feature. Based on Tinder’s Internal Testing Data, using the feature has allowed users to drastically increase their match rate. Tinder also boasts that “women who used Double Date during testing were three times more likely to Like a pair than they were individual profiles.” The new feature has also successfully gotten new or returning users to download the app, which, if anything, increases the dating pool.
While Tinder has revealed statistics such as match rate and increase in messages sent, there is still little data on whether these double dates lead to second or third dates between individuals. Reactions on social media range from excited to skeptical about the feature. As one Reddit user said, “Yeah, it’s already scary enough to meet a strange man, let alone two of them 😭.”
Is Tinder’s Double Date feature free?
Yes, Tinder’s Double Date feature is free for all users. Right now, Double Date is only available in the United States. However, the app plans on broadening the feature to the global market in July. Users do not need to have a Gold or Platinum account to start dating as a duo.
