Netflix’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’ Drops Dreamy First Teaser: Everything We Know So Far

Consider us bewitched by the teaser for Netflix’s upcoming TV adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Based on the first footage, it looks like we’ll need to start preparing ourselves now for some yearning of epic proportions between Emma Corrin‘s Elizabeth Bennet and Jack Lowden‘s Mr. Darcy.

We’ve come to expect as much from any adaptation of Jane Austen’s iconic story, whether it be in movie or show form. “Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Corrin said. “To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia [Colman] and Jack, with Dolly [Alderton]’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honor. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”

It’s been a minute since Lizzie and Darcy’s romance has been on the small screen, with about three decades passing since BBC’s Colin Firth-led miniseries aired, and we’re beyond ready to immerse ourselves in the Pride and Prejudice world once again. Luckily, we won’t have to wait too long. Netflix revealed its release window at the end of the teaser. Keep reading for the full rundown on the cast and more details.

When is Pride and Prejudice coming out?

Unfortunately, we don’t have the exact release date quite yet, but Austenheads will be happy to know that the six-episode limited series is guaranteed to drop in 2026.

Who is making Pride and Prejudice?

The team behind the Pride and Prejudice remake is no stranger to the romance genre. The show was written by author Dolly Alderton, who wrote Everything I Know About Love and Good Material. Heartstopper director Euros Lyn is translating her script to the screen and doubles as executive producer.

“Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it,” said Alderton, who’s also serving as an executive producer. “With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy.”

Rounding out the roster of executive producers are Corrin — their first time in the role — and Lookout Point’s Laura Lankester, Will Johnston, and Louise Mutter. Lookout Point is a BBC Studios company, which made Disney+’s Renegade Nell, the final season of Happy Valley, and two seasons of Gentleman Jack. Lisa Osborne is producing.

What is Pride and Prejudice about?

Fans of the book don’t have to worry about the series straying too far from the source material. Netflix has confirmed that it will be a “faithful, classic adaptation” of the story, which Alderton says is the “blueprint for romantic comedy.” It primarily follows the independent Elizabeth, who hails from a middle class family, as she clashes and ultimately falls for closed-off aristocrat Fitzwilliam Darcy.

“We are delighted to be sharing this beloved British classic with our global audience,” said Netflix executive Mona Qureshi. “Dolly’s fierce intelligence and enormous heart, twinned with her genuine love of the Austen novel, means she is able to bring new insights, whilst celebrating all that the generations of fans hold so dear.”
