‘Funny You Should Ask:’ Who Should Play Chani Opposite Regé-Jean Page? (POLL)

Step aside, Phoebe Dynevor, Regé-Jean Page is officially on the market for a new (fictional) leading lady!
On July 8, Deadline announced that the former Bridgerton star had acquired the rights to adapt Elissa Sussman’s second-chance romance novel Funny You Should Ask. While the beloved actor joined the project as a producer, it was made clear that Page intends to star in the adaptation, which would mark his highly anticipated return to television following his abrupt exit from Bridgerton.
Presumably, Page would take on the role of Gabe Parker, a Hollywood heartthrob set to star in the newest James Bond film. Years ago, Chani Horowitz, an up-and-coming entertainment reporter, wrote an intimate profile about Gabe and the time they spent together during the interview. Now that his PR team has requested a follow-up, Chani’s faced with the truth of their whirlwind encounter.
Now that Funny You Should Ask has found its Gabe Parker, we’re breaking down our picks for the top actresses we’d like to see play Chani Horowitz.
Who do you think should play Chani? Be sure to weigh in by voting in our poll below!

Rachel Sennott
When it comes to Chani, Sussman has made it clear that her leading lady is “a lanky, loudmouthed Jew”— and we love to see it. Our first pick for Chani is Rachel Sennott, an actress and comedian best known for starring in Shiva Baby and Bottoms. From what we’ve seen of Page, he’s a pretty serious actor, so we’re going to need a Chani who can bring the comedy to TV’s next epic rom-com. With this effervescently hilarious actress taking the lead, we know Chani would be in good hands.

Pauline Chalamet
The Sex Lives of College Girls may be over, but that doesn’t mean we’ve misplaced our love for this Kimberly Finkle actress. During her stint on the HBO Max original, Pauline Chalamet proved that she could play both awkward and sexy (generally at the same time), which is the recipe for a perfect Chani Horowitz. Beyond The Sex Lives of College Girls, Chalamet was featured in The King of Staten Island. Could Funny You Should Ask be next?

Micaela Diamond
From stage to screen, Micaela Diamond has done it all. Diamond is best known for her breathtaking work on Broadway in both The Cher Show and Parade, for which she received a Best Actress Tony nomination. Haven’t made it out to see a Broadway musical, but recognize the actress? Diamond has also been featured in FX’s Grotesquerie and Elsbeth. If any rising star were to land the role of Chani, our money’s on her.
