‘Eternity’: Everything We Know So Far About Elizabeth Olsen’s Fantasy Rom-Com

When it comes to love triangles, we thought we’d seen it all, but Elizabeth Olsen‘s new movie just proved us wrong.

A24 is putting a supernatural spin on the classic trope with Eternity. The WandaVision star plays a woman who has recently died, and she’s faced with an impossible question: Which of her two dead husbands should she spend the rest of her afterlife with? On one hand, she has Miles Teller‘s (Top Gun: Maverick) character. On the other, she’s got Callum Turner‘s (Masters of the Air). Not an easy one, right?

While the internet has already started weighing in about who they’d choose, we still have to wait a few more months to find out Eternity‘s endgame. In the meantime, you can check out everything we know about the upcoming rom-com, including the full cast list, plot details, release date, and more.

When is Eternity coming out?

Don’t worry, you don’t have to wait that long to watch A24’s latest. It’s premiering at Toronto International Film Festival this September, but it’ll arrive in theaters in November.

Who is in the Eternity cast?

Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller, and Callum Turner in 'Eternity'.

A24

Olsen leads as Joan. Her husband of half a century, Teller’s Larry, beat her to the afterlife. (They’re playing older people in younger bodies, FYI.) However, so did Joan’s first husband, played by Turner. The Holdovers star Da’Vine Joy Randolph oversees it all as afterlife coordinator Anna, as does John Early‘s character. Broadway star Olga Merediz rounds out the cast.

What is Eternity about?

Joan has one week to decide where she’ll spend eternity, and more importantly, the one person she’ll spend it with. Will it be Larry, who she was married to for most of her life? Or her first husband, who died in the war and has been waiting decades for her? In the “junction” (aka limbo), both men fight to win Joan over.

Who is making Eternity?

David Freyne directed the film, which was financed by A24. He has Dating Amber (a 2020 coming-of-age rom-com) and The Cured (a 2017 horror flick led by Elliot Page), under his belt.

He wrote Eternity with Pat Cunnane, who was President Barack Obama’s Senior Writer and Deputy Director of Messaging. Afterward, he worked on Netflix’s Designated Survivor before its 2019 cancellation. The screenplay earned a coveted spot on the Black List — the yearly roundup of Hollywood’s most-liked undeveloped screenplays — in 2022.

Star Thrower Entertainment’s Trevor White and Tim White are producers. They developed 2021’s King Richard, which earned them Oscar nominations.
