Inside Jonathan Scott’s Dating History: His First Wife, Zooey Deschanel Romance & More
Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel have been going strong for six years. After going public with their romance in 2019, they got engaged in August 2023. However, before he was with the New Girl star, Scott was in two other very serious relationships.
In fact, Scott was previously married to Kelsy Ully, and then dated Jacinta Kuznetsov for several years before their split. Scroll down for what we know about the Property Brothers star’s relationship history.
What happened to Jonathan Scott’s first wife?
Scott met Ully around 2007. At the time, he was not yet an HGTV star. She was working as an airline-crew scheduler for a Canadian airline, and he moved from Canada to Las Vegas once they got together. They tied the knot in 2007, but broke up just after two years.
As Scott later explained to People, “We were young, and there was a rush going into it.” He revealed that Ully was set on getting married on “7/7/7,” so the wedding “wasn’t something that naturally happened.”
“I think that one of the biggest things I learned is that you can have two good people who are just not good for each other,” he added. “I’m glad that we found that out early.”
In his and twin brother Drew Scott‘s 2017 memoir, Scott gave more insight into the split. He said the marriage started falling apart when Ully took a job at a pool club in Las Vegas, and they would rarely see each other because she was working such late hours. “My wife was out every night, coming home later and later,” he wrote. “She had a whole subset of friends now that I barely knew, and I was rarely invited to join them. Work seemed to be putting more and more distance between us.”
Scott claimed that Ully changed her Facebook status from “married” to blank one night, which is when he knew it was over, leading him to file for divorce. “The split isn’t something I dwell on anymore, but for one too-long, too-dark period in my life, that’s practically all I did. It shook me right to my core,” he admitted.
Where is Kelsy Ully now?
Ully’s name on LinkedIn is now Kelsy Johnson, so she appears to have gotten married. Her location is listed as San Diego, California, and her career is an “administrative professional.”
The former airline worker’s last job experience was in August 2024, when she worked as the director of strategic customer service for Austin Pets Alive! in Austin, Texas. Before that, she was a senior account executive at Vantage Circle. Prior to that, she was the owner and director of business operations for Impel Systems from 2016 to 2022.
What happened to Jonathan Scott and Jacinta Kuznetsov?
Scott and Kuznetsov met in 2015 at a charity gala. Their relationship was on the fast track to a future together, as he told People in 2017, “We definitely want to get married and have kids, but we’re just finding joy in our relationship and still learning about each other as well. We’ve only been dating a year and a half, but I don’t think we’ll wait seven years like Drew did before we decide what we’re going to do.”
However, in March 2018, he announced their breakup in a now-deleted tweet. “When I met Jacinta in the fall of 2015, I met somebody kind and courageous and a champion for human/animal rights,” Scott shared. “We grew to respect each other fiercely and know that will remain unchanged for the rest of our lives. Sometimes life takes you on unexpected paths and those paths aren’t always in the same direction. There’s no drama or negativity; no jealousy or hate. Not even sadness or sorrow. Our memories are filled with joy and we will continue to advocate for each other as friends wherever we go.”

Scott expanded on the breakup in a 2019 People interview and explained that his busy work schedule was partly to blame. “She wanted to accomplish a lot of things in her life, and that did not involve following a partner around on the road as they pursued their career,” he shared. “We agreed that it would not always be Jacinta who travels to me. We’d try to trade off 50-50. It didn’t take long before this became difficult and eventually impossible.”
Kuznetsov wound up getting engaged to someone else less than a year after the breakup. “I was upset, I won’t lie,” Scott admitted. “I was not ready to date. It wasn’t even on my radar. But I’m a realist, and I knew that it was not for me to say when and who she would date.”
Are Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel still together?
Yes, Scott and Deschanel are still together. The two met after appearing on the same episode of Carpool Karaoke in 2019. He popped the question during a trip to Scotland in 2023.

However, earlier this month, he revealed on Today With Jenna & Friends that he and his bride-to-be have not started wedding planning yet. “We are the worst,” he said. “We’ve been having so much fun. We’ve been traveling. We have not planned anything.”
One thing that he knows for sure, though, is that the wedding will not be televised. “Not a chance!” he told Swooon.
