Eagle-eyed fans have noticed some hidden details in The Summer I Turned Pretty characters’ Season 3 wardrobes.

The usage of red and blue on the show may hint at which of the Fisher brothers, Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) or Conrad (Christopher Briney), Belly (Lola Tung) will ultimately choose to be with. Season 3 Episode 4, in particular, leans heavily into the color red representing Jeremiah and blue representing Conrad.

Belly can be spotted wearing red plaid shorts while arguing about her engagement to Jeremiah with her mother. Upon driving off to the Cousins Beach house, Jeremiah — who also sported a red tie at his internship — changes into his own pair of red plaid shorts. Conrad greets the couple in a red T-shirt, teasing that he may have accepted that Belly chose his brother over him.

Conrad uses a blue surfboard out on the water when Jeremiah — who uses a red one — asks him to be his best man. He turns down the offer and can later be seen wearing a blue shirt when he overhears Belly crying in her room. It’s also in that outfit that he cheers her up by agreeing to be Jeremiah’s best man, only to say via voiceover, “What have I done?”

More of Belly’s Episode 4 outfits also highlight her uncertainty over her wedding to Jeremiah. Refferencing Belly’s red plaid shorts, TikTok user @kathani_sharma pointed out in a Wednesday, July 30, upload, “Belly still doesn’t fully love Jeremiah ’cause she will always have a piece of her heart for Conrad. That makes up the plaid with the white dots. There’s pieces of the red missing.”

Belly also wears a blue and red plaid bikini while swimming at the beach house, a potential nod to her lingering feelings for Conrad. “[It] really just reminded me that she does love both of the brothers, and I feel like that really shows that she always has love in her heart for Jeremiah and Conrad, and the red and the blue really shows that,” the TikToker added.

Belly eventually changes into a dress with red cherries on it to tell Jeremiah she won’t study abroad in Paris. She later cries in that outfit following a flashback of her mother (Jackie Chung) cuddling her to sleep in her Cousins Beach house room when she was young. During the flashback, Susannah (Rachel Blanchard) notes that she decorated the space with blue because it was Belly’s “favorite color.”

While Episode 4 played the most into the red/blue color theory, all of the main trio have worn those colors during important Season 3 moments. Conrad wore blue in his first onscreen appearance this season, while the dress Belly was wearing when she learned of Jeremiah’s cheating featured blue flowers.

In Episode 2, Belly dons a red bomber jacket while contemplating whether or not to forgive Jeremiah for his infidelity, as well as red pajamas in her flashback to spending Christmas in Cousins Beach with Conrad while Jeremiah was away.

In Episode 3, Belly notably wears a blue mini dress to Susannah’s garden dedication ceremony and while announcing her and Jeremiah’s engagement to their families. While Conrad wears neutral colors for the reveal, Jeremiah pairs his white dress shirt with a red tie.

One fan, however, suggested via X that the color red actually symbolizes Conrad and not Jeremiah. After all, Taylor Swift‘s song “Red” plays over a clip of Conrad in the show’s Season 3 teaser, using the lyrics, “But loving him was red.”

“These red little details—the plaid bathing suit, red toenails, red-thingy shell from her bedside table, that cherry red patterned dress, red stripe from the frame in con’s room IF THAT’S NOT LEADING HER UP TO HIM BEING THE ENDGAME THEN IDK WHAT THAT IS,” the X user wrote alongside Episode 4 screenshots on Wednesday.

[SPOILER] As fans of Jenny Han‘s TSITP book series know, Belly ultimately gets back together with Conrad at the end of the story. If the color theory is correct, perhaps viewers will see Belly sporting more blue as Season 3 goes on.
