‘Pioneer Woman’ Ree Drummond Shares Rare Details About Date Nights With Husband Ladd

After nearly 29 years of marriage, Ree Drummond and her husband, Ladd Drummond, like to keep their romance alive with date nights whenever possible. Although they’re both extremely busy, they’ve come up with a date night routine that works well for them whenever they have some time to get away.
While Ree notes that her and Ladd’s favorite date night makes them sound “like an old married couple,” she explained why it’s ideal for them.
“We love to take drives together,” Ree shared on her Pioneer Woman blog. “There’s something about the peace of the pickup [truck]. That diesel engine is like background music, and we are focused only on each other. No laptops, devices, TVs. It’s such a great time to catch up.”
Ree clarified that the route she and Ladd take is “different every time,” adding, “Sometimes we stay on the country roads and check on fences or cattle, other times we’ll drive east to Pawhuska or west to Ponca City, stopping to get a convenience store Dr Pepper when we get there. Other times Ladd will drive into this pasture or that to show me an area of a creek that I may not have seen before, or, again, to check on a cow or a fence.”
The longtime loves tied the knot in September 1996 and had four children together. Their daughter, Paige Drummond, just married David Andersen in June 2025.
They also added a fifth child to the family, foster son Jamar, in 2018. The children are all grown now, making Ree and Ladd empty nesters. But despite having “lots of time alone at home already,” the Food Network star and her husband still prefer to get out on the open road together when they can.
“There’s something about the safety and sanctity of the pickup that sparks the very best conversations,” Ree noted.
