Are ‘Regretting You’ Stars Mason Thames & Mckenna Grace Dating? Breaking Down Their History
It won’t be long until Regretting You, aka the latest Colleen Hoover adaptation, hits theaters. In fact, we just got our first glimpse at the movie, which features dual love stories. One follows Morgan and Jonah (Allison Williams and Dave Franco), who comfort each other after the devastating loss of their significant others. The other belongs to Morgan’s daughter, Clara, who also finds romance while dealing with her grief.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife star Mckenna Grace will bring Clara to life, while How to Train Your Dragon‘s Mason Thames plays her love interest. It’ll be a few months until we can judge their onscreen chemistry for ourselves — though the trailer definitely looks promising — but you can read up on the actors’ potential real-life romance in the meantime. That’s right: Grace and Thames have been fueling dating rumors for months. So, are the costars actually together? Here’s what we know.
Are Mason Thames and Mckenna Grace dating?
Thames and Grace got fans’ attention all the way back in April when they locked lips for a TikTok trend. Whether it was a hard launch or promo for Regretting You (they wrote their characters’ names in the caption) is up for debate, since the actors haven’t yet confirmed if they’re actually an item.
When Seventeen asked Thames about the viral video, he said, “I didn’t really know what to expect, but it was really funny. I had a lot of friends text me. It was hilarious. [Grace] was like, ‘This is a TikTok — do you wanna do it?’ And I was like ‘Yeah, let’s!’ And we posted it, and then… Jesus.”

That’s not the only instance where fans have suspected that Thames and Grace are more than friends. Earlier this summer, when Thames was promoting How to Train Your Dragon, Grace accompanied him on a stroll around New York City. They held hands while being photographed.
That wasn’t their first outing together, either. Long before the dating rumors surfaced, the costars attended Netflix’s Incoming House Party event in August 2024. Months later, they joined Franco for an NBA game at the State Farm Arena. Grace also posted some behind-the-scenes photos with her Regretting You castmates, Thames included.

What have Mason Thames & Mckenna Grace said about their relationship?
Grace hasn’t spoken about her relationship with Thames, though she described him as “a really good friend” in a December 2024 Good Morning America interview.
Thames sort-of addressed the rumors in his Seventeen interview. He kept things vague, speaking only about how it feels to have people speculate on his dating life. “Yeah, it is strange,” he said. “But I’ve always sort of been off the internet. I’ve always kind of kept everything to myself and been very personal. Having people speculate so much, especially having mutual friends texting me and asking… It’s wild. I’m still not used to it.”
The actor did say that he and Mckenna hang out “all the time,” even describing a trip they took to the aquarium together. “She has an aquarium playlist in her AirPods,” he said. “So she had one in her ear, and I had one in mine while we looked at sharks.”
Thames also had nothing but praise for his costar’s acting skills. “It’s insane to watch her,” he gushed. “She is one of the most driven people I’ve ever met in my life. Every day I’m on set with her, I just want to be as good as Mckenna.”
He continued, “She’s such a sweet person, and getting to do this movie with her is so cool. I’d like to think I’m a funny person. So, you know, I’d like to think I make her funnier. Even though honestly, Mckenna is one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. She’ll just says some stuff, and it catches me so off guard.”

The Black Phone actor hasn’t publicly discussed or revealed any past romances, and the same can be said for Grace.
