[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Leanne Season 1.]

Ladies and gentlemen, there’s a new country-fried leading lady on television, and her name isn’t Reba McEntire.

Leanne Morgan, the blonde bombshell lighting up the heartland and beyond, has spun off the success of her first Netflix comedy special, Leanne Morgan: I’m Every Woman, into her own sitcom with a straight-to-the-point title – Leanne. It comes on the heels of her meme-making breakout role in Prime Video’s wedding rom-com You’re Cordially Invited opposite Reese Witherspoon earlier this year.

Fans of the comedian know her brand of humor well: a relatable air of self-deprecating mixed with some sharp-tongued humor about the insecurities and surprises of middle age, all delivered with a southern drawl so authentic it comes with a side of fried green tomatoes. But one of the key themes of Morgan’s comedy has always been her 33-year marriage to Chuck Morgan, whose love language leaves something to be desired. She loves her husband and their three children, but Morgan isn’t afraid — dare we say, she’s empowered even — to mine the humor from a love aging like boxed wine in the bedroom and beyond.

She’s a sweet, frank voice, and it shines through in her new series, from executive producer Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory, Two and A Half Men). But what may surprise some, unless they have been paying attention to all the Chuck Morgan jokes, is that the actress is an excellent leading lady in search of love. In the series, Leanne (a fictionalized but still recognizable version of the actress) can’t do anything but duck for cover and wallow in bed when her three-decade marriage implodes, leaving her to pick up the pieces of her life and her heart with the help of her sister, Carol (Kristen Johnston). But does she find love in the aftermath?

What happened to Leanne’s marriage?

Before we can dive into her love life, let’s recap what happened to Leanne’s first marriage. The series opens with Bill (Ryan Stiles), her husband of 30+ years and father to her two grown children, announcing he has been having an affair with his dental hygienist — and she is pregnant. It wrecks Leanne, who later admits she would have done anything to save their marriage had she paid attention to how badly it was falling apart. That being said, the man wronged our sweet woman, and we will not stand for it! Leanne Murphy deserves better, and thankfully she gets it.

Does Leanne have a love interest?

Yes she does, and if she is going to enter the dating pool after 30 years, who wouldn’t want to do it with Tim Daly (Private Practice)? In the first season of Leanne, she ventures back out into the world of dating when she crosses paths with Andrew Madden, an FBI agent who comes calling when Carol’s on-the-lam boyfriend goes missing.

Leanne Morgan and Tim Daly as Andrew in Season 1 Episode 11 of 'Leanne'

Leanne and Andrew hit it off immediately, comparing notes about the best practices when popping Prilosec and sharing lingering looks in an interrogation room. Agent Andrew is a kind man, who patiently waits for Leanne to weather hot flashes and butterflies to finally fall headfirst into her first new relationship since becoming a grandmother and starting menopause. She struggles to find her self-confidence in the early stages of their relationship, which isn’t easy at any age. But the two become the envy of her little community and church circle.

Do Leanne and Andrew end up together?

They do, at least for now! By the end of the season, they have swapped those three special words and decide to take a big step — or rather he decides for them. When Andrew books the couple a beach getaway, it reactivates Leanne’s insecurities about herself, whether she has a beach-ready body and what it will be like to share intimate moments with another man.

But after some awkwardness, the two manage to clear the air and shake off the nerves to enjoy some sand and sun. Unfortunately, the UV rays will have to wait because they get called back home when her son, Tyler (Graham Rogers), calls to say his wife is in labor. Even with the chaos of her second grandbaby, Leanne takes a moment to tell her man that she loves him. The future is bright for these two lovebirds.
