Why Are ‘Golden Bachelorette’s Joan Vassos & Chock Chapple Spending Time Apart?

Some fans are beginning to worry about the state of Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple‘s relationship. The engaged couple has noticeably been spending quite a bit of time apart this summer.
In July, Chapple took a trip to Africa with his son, and Vassos recently embarked on a European vacation with her The Golden Bachelor pal Nancy Hulkower. So what’s the deal?
There’s nothing to worry about, as Chapple and Vassos have had these trips in the works for months! The Golden Bachelorette lovebirds told Swooon all about their summer plans back in June. Chapple and his son took the African safari trip as a graduation gift, while Vassos and Hulkower often take vacations together.
Luckily, the two were able to get in quite a bit of time together before leaving for their respective getaways. In early July, they gathered both of their families for a trip to the beach. Before that, they spent some time in New York, and Vassos also visited her fiancé in Kansas.
Plus, coming up, both families will reunite again in Disney World this fall. The trip was a gift from The Golden Bachelorette. “They gave us a whole family gift, which was really nice,” Vassos noted. “And then we both have a separate vacation, which is also fun. That’s kind of what’s great about being a little bit of an older couple, you don’t always have to worry about taking your kids on vacation or worry about blending families. We can do things with each of our families, [or] we can do things together. You don’t feel obligate to have to bring all these kids along.”
She also noted that she and Chapple had have “several vacations just the two of us” since filming ended a year ago, which is why they’re also okay to spend some time apart.
It’s been a year since Vassos and Chapple got engaged, but they’ve been open about how they’re not in a rush to walk down the aisle. One thing they do know, though, is that they want their families by their sides, no matter how the big day shapes up to be.
“I don’t think I want to do anything huge,” Vassos told us. “I want to do something kind of small, mostly family, I’m thinking. I wouldn’t hate to do a destination wedding. That could be fun because everybody gets a vacation out of it and we get to celebrate with everyone for more than one night. I don’t think we have any nonnegotiables, other than our family has to be there. They’re the most important people, obviously, so we would never, like, elope or anything.”
