Is ‘And Just Like That’ Really Over? Everything We Know About Carrie Bradshaw’s Future

And Just Like That cast members and viewers alike were stunned when showrunner Michael Patrick King announced on August 1 that Season 3 would be the final season of the Sex and the City spinoff. The shocking news was revealed just a few weeks before the series finale.
Given that And Just Like That was born after Sex and the City’s six-season run and two follow-up movies, is this really it for Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and the rest of the crew?
Why is And Just Like That ending?
In his statement, King said that he realized it was time to end And Just Like That after Season 3 while he was writing the now-series finale. “It became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop,” he wrote.
King explained that he and Parker “held off announcing the news until now because we didn’t want the word “final” to overshadow the fun of watching the season.” In a lengthy Instagram post, Parker noted, “MPK and I together recognized, as we have in the past, this chapter is complete.”
Davis wrote that she was “profoundly sad” about the show ending. Nixon thanked Parker and the rest of the team for “a quarter century of memories and friendships.”
Could And Just Like That Season 4 happen?
Viewers were expecting And Just Like That to get renewed for Season 4 right up until the ending announcement. The series continues to dominate the Top 10 of HBO Max’s TV shows week after week. The Episode 12 preview that aired after the penultimate episode called the next episode the “season finale” and not the “series finale,” but it could have been a mistake on HBO Max’s part.
In the world of Carrie Bradshaw, anything is truly possible, so one can’t rule out Season 4 completely. However, it truly seems like this is the final chapter for the Sex and the City universe. But, who knows, maybe they’ll one day make Sex and the City 3. (Don’t ever lose hope!)
After the box office success of two Sex and the City feature films, there were reports about a third movie. In 2017, Parker revealed that Sex and the City 3 was no longer in the works. “I’m disappointed,” the actress told Extra. “We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story. It’s not just disappointing that we don’t get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie.”
Kim Cattrall, who reprised her role of Samantha Jones in a brief And Just Like That Season 2 finale cameo, slammed a Daily Mail report about her alleged demands regarding a third film. “The only ‘DEMAND’ I ever made was that I didn’t want to do a 3rd film….& that was back in 2016,” she tweeted in 2017.
After the third movie fell through, no one could have predicted And Just Like That would happen a handful of years later, but it did. Could Carrie have one last chapter in her down the road?
