Sean McLaughlin was at the center of controversy during Week 7 of Bachelor in Paradise. Amid his relationship with Allyshia Gupta, Sean wasn’t willing to ignore the $500,000 prize, and attempted to strategize to win.

Unfortunately, this gameplay rubbed some of his fellow contestants the wrong way. Meanwhile, Allyshia was feeling slighted by some of the other women, who she felt were turning against her, even though she considered them her friends.

Rather than wait to see if their fellow castmates had voted them off, Sean and Allyshia made the decision to self-eliminate and leave the show as a couple. “We are leaving here with something so much more valuable than money can ever buy, and we’ll continue our relationship back in Tampa and get a big fat bucket of popcorn to watch this all back,” Allyshia declared.

So, have they been able to make it work? They gave an update at the Season 10 reunion on September 3. Scroll down for everything we know about where Sean and Allyshia stand now.

Are Sean McLaughlin and Allyshia Gupta still together?

No, Sean and Allyshia are no longer together. They did try to make their relationship work in the real world after Paradise, but life got in the way.

“We definitely left Paradise with a great relationship and continued it on the outside. We’ve kind of been faced with a little bit of distance, I would say,” Allyshia shared during the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast reunion. “I had some opportunities come up in L.A. and I pursued them. That’s something we’ve discussed. I’m not willing to compromise my career goals for a heterosexual man, and Sean supports that. We love each other. We’re best of friends and more than anything else, just the best of teammates, and we respect and care for one another.”

Sean added, “It was a good run. Everything you just said is correct. I think distance is really tough, obviously. When you put it in the grand scheme of things of Paradise, we’ve known each other 26 days prior to leaving together and there’s certain things within your career and life that you got to take advantage of. I have my career, she has her career, and it does make it tough with the distance. But at the end of the day, we did walk away as the best of friends.”

Allyshia previously hinted at their split in an Instagram post on August 17. “Waiting for the man I need, but until then we’re all good because I’ve got my girls,” she wrote across a video with some friends.

While speaking with Us Weekly, she also said, “Sean and I are on great terms. We like to have fun with it. It was fun for us. Obviously, there’s highs and lows of the whole experience, but at the end of the day, the relationships we walked way with are the best part. Sean and I walked away with a fantastic relationship, one that we continue. I was actually FaceTiming him right before coming into this interview. So things are great with him.”

Sean appeared on the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast after his elimination and was not able to give a specific update about the status of his relationship with Allyshia yet. He did share some insight into his state of mind after the self-elimination, though.

“I was excited,” he dished. “I was like, we get to go back, I’ll hang out with her. I thought I found the most amazing person. I was incredibly excited about our relationship, so I couldn’t wait to get back to Tampa.”

What happened between Allyshia Gupta and Dale Moss?

When Allyshia arrived to Paradise in Week 4, she quickly set her sights on Dale Moss, who was already coupled up with Kat Izzo at the time. However, he wasn’t able to fully deny the chemistry he had with Allyshia.

Allyshia had a date card, but wound up asking Sean to go on the date. During her own Bachelor Happy Hour appearance, she admitted that she knew Sean was the safe choice and that if she chose him, she felt secure that she’d get a rose, and then have another week in Paradise to get to know both Sean and Dale.

In the end, Dale ended up sticking with Kat, while Allyshia’s romantic connection with Sean grew. She admitted she felt “deprived” of the “dating around” part of Paradise because she came in so late, and almost everyone else was in relationships already. Then, Jesse Palmer flipped the script and announced the $500,000 cash prize that would go to the winning couple.

“Because of the way it turned into a competition at that point, I don’t think it was ever going to progress [with Dale],” she confirmed.
