Amy Robach & T.J. Holmes Open Up About Hitting ‘Rock Bottom’
Podcast power couple Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes were very candid about their lives in honor Holmes’ 48th birthday. In a new episode of their Amy & T.J. podcast, the pair discussed what Holmes discovered was the “unhappiest” year of their lives.
Holmes brought up a study conducted by economist David Blanchflower, where he deduced that people are their “unhappiest” when they’re 47.2 years old. For Holmes, he admitted that he hit his lowest point well before his 47th year. The couple opened up about hitting “rock bottom” in recent years.
“I believe, from having known you very well for the last 10 years, I did see you at a very rock bottom place, and it was a few years before 47.2,” Robach said. “I think you have been on the upswing, although we did have some turbulence coming out of that. But I have heard you describe yourself to people, correct me if I’m wrong, that you are the happiest and healthiest you’ve ever been.”
Holmes agreed with his girlfriend. “The healthiest part is the key,” he added. The former CNN journalist revealed that he faced “some ugliness” in his late 30s and early 40s. “That was some dark, dark times for me,” he said.
Robach noted, “I can account for my late 40s as being absolutely the most tumultuous of my life for sure and hitting rock bottom.”
Without explicitly saying it, the couple referenced their drama surrounding their relationship going public and their firings from ABC. Holmes pointed out that “there was stuff that was going on in our life outside of our control, but that is not what we’re talking about in this survey thing.”
When the former GMA3 cohosts’ romance was revealed via paparazzi photos in 2022, the couple was accused of having an affair. However, they had already separated from their spouses, who are now dating each other. “I would say that these last couple of years have been tough for me,” Robach said.
Despite the recent turbulent times, Robach and Holmes have emerged stronger than ever. “I genuinely feel like I am on the upswing,” Holmes said with Robach by his side.
