Get your favorite stationery and planners ready because Virgo Season has arrived. The Cancer and Leo seasons were about emotionally resetting. Now that you’ve exorcised demons, it is time to make a plan to take over the world.

Virgos love a list. As an Earth sign, it’s about logic and order for the next month. Your tolerance for mess is going to be low, and your ambitions are going to be high. It feels fitting that the back-to-school season falls under the Virgo dates. The smell of sharpened pencils is probably an aphrodisiac to most Virgos.

What does this mean for you and the content we’re recommending this season? Everything on this list is celebrating the “making a list and checking it twice” people of the world. If Cancer was about getting in touch with your softer side, and Leo was about hot girl summer, then Virgos is about channeling your inner boss b*tch. The world is your oyster, and it is time to take charge. What are you going to do, let someone less organized and less prepared do it? Please. Get ready. Virgo class is officially in session.

TV Shows

For Virgo season TV shows, we looked for main characters who are analytical and on top of their game. These shows feature people ready to take over the world, but the scope of that world varies by show.

I’m A Virgo

Jharrel Jerome in 'I'm a Virgo'

Pete Lee / Amazon / Everett Collection

Prime Video made this one pretty easy for us. It’s in the name! I’m a Virgo is a 2023 miniseries from Boots Riley about a 13-foot tall teenager, Cootie (Jharrel Jerome), who is hidden away from the world until a group of young activists accidentally discover him. A Boots Riley production means this series definitely has an Aquarius moon (translation: It’s a little weird but in a great and interesting way), but ultimately it is an untraditional coming-of-age story about a young man learning to take up space. The visuals are trippy, but it’s a grounded tale that most people can relate to. Learning to create your world as you see fit is very in for Virgo season.

Sullivan’s Crossing

Chad Michael Murray as Cal Jones and Morgan Kohan as Maggie Sullivan in 'Sullivan's Crossing' Season 3

Jessie Redmond / Fremantle

Sullivan’s Crossing is about a brain surgeon named Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan) who returns to the nature preserve and campground where she grew up after facing a career-altering professional crisis. The Virgo energy was achieved just by Maggie being a brain surgeon, but many of her problems when she returns to the Crossing stem from the fact that she can’t get out of her own head to make a path forward. Overthinking is a downfall of our Virgo brethren. Maggie is still figuring out how to not be in her own way, but in the meantime, she’s tackling everyone else’s problems at the Crossing with logic and sensible energy.

Wednesday

Jenna Ortega for 'Wednesday' Season 1

Vlad Cioplea / Netflix

This one is for our Virgos who are very ready to trade in summer wear for sweaters and enjoy spooky season. The second half of Wednesday Season 2 will drop during Virgo season, and that feels right as Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) continues her dominance over Nevermore Academy. She is meticulous and pathological when it comes to her plans. Determined is an understatement when it comes to Wednesday when she has a specific goal in mind. She even has a pencil skirt as a staple part of her outfit. This is a girl who knows she knows best and will not be taking any notes, thank you!

Movies

The movies picked for this month are following pretty much the same trend as the TV shows. We’re thinking about academics and real go-getters to inspire you, though there are some fun surprises in here as well.

Legally Blonde (2001)

Being smart and ambitious does not mean you have to be boring, and no one embodies that more than Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) in Legally Blonde. Yes, Virgos are about handling business, but there’s absolutely no reason to think that you can’t look great and feel great while you are doing it. Carry the confidence you channeled in Leo season into these new plans and action items, even if you feel out of your depth. Elle believes in you, and we do, too.

Jurassic World Rebirth (2025)

I know what you’re thinking. “Isn’t this a romance website? Why are they recommending a dinosaur movie?” And you are correct, but my counterpoint is this: Jonathan Bailey‘s slutty little glasses. His character, Dr. Loomis, gets sucked into this terrifying adventure because of his desire to know more about dinosaurs – a Virgo trait if there ever was one. He’s a man with a plan, and it’s not his fault that the people around him made other plans without his knowledge, and he is rightfully annoyed when they mess up his entire situation and almost get him eaten — multiple times! He gets a few moments to wax poetic about why studying dinosaurs is so important to him, and that yearning (yep, I said it on purpose. IYKYK) for knowledge is why he’s starring in this month’s recommendation list.

Practical Magic (1998)

Hello, my spooky boos! We know so many people want to be Gilly (Nicole Kidman), a bodacious Leo/Sag queen, but we’re here to talk about Sally (Sandra Bullock). Out of the two Practical Magic sisters, she is bringing the Virgo energy. She’s so meticulous that she made a list of the perfect traits in a soulmate and then manifested him into being. Girl, teach us your tricks! She’s the sensible one and always getting Gilly out of trouble, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t know how to have fun herself. This is a sign to make some midnight margaritas and get in touch with your inner witch, because the planners of the world also know how to make magic. Just don’t help your sister kill her abusive ex and then try to resurrect him. Or if you do (I don’t know your life!), make sure you have a phone tree to rely on for backup.

Books

You won’t catch any of the heroines in these books slacking. All of them are a reminder that you don’t have to compromise to reach your goals, and prioritizing your career and hobbies does not disqualify you from fulfilling romances when you find the right person.

Overruled by Lana Ferguson

Case in point: Overruled by Lana Ferguson. Danica Pearce is a divorce attorney eager to make partner at her firm on her own merit. When her boss assigns her a major divorce case that the entire city of Austin is invested in, Danica basically starts planning out her new office. The only problem is that the opposing counsel is Ezra Hart, her courtroom nemesis and hookup partner she can’t seem to quit. Winning this case means everything to her, but can Danica put aside her inescapable attraction to Ezra to get the job done? When it comes to matters of the heart, the jury is still out.

Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver

This one is for my dark romance fans, or those looking to test the waters with dark romance. Virgos are very popular astrological signs for serial killers (did we mention they are meticulous?), second to Geminis. Sloane Sutherland is a serial killer who tracks down other serial killers, but she gets a little more than she bargained for when she runs into Rowan Kane when they are hunting the same man. Sloane is methodical with her kills. She does a ton of research. She plots and stalks and pulls in her victims like prey. It’s a gory read, but she’s a woman on a mission, and her attention to detail is the hallmark of a Virgo queen. Oh, and Butcher & Blackbird is a level four on our Swooon spice meter.

I Hope This Doesn’t Find You by Ann Liang

If spice isn’t really in your bag, then check out I Hope This Doesn’t Find You by Ann Liang. It’s a YA romance about two top-tier students battling it out for valedictorian at their competitive prep school. Sadie tries so hard to be liked by everyone, but it’s frustrating being a people pleaser. Her beautifully constructed image is blown to bits when all of her private email drafts are mysteriously sent out from her school laptop. The only person who seems able to help her put everything back together is Julius Gong, her nemesis. Julius helps Sadie see there’s more to life than acing the latest test (which is something our overachieving Virgos can use sometimes). These two bring out the best in each other, which is what Virgos want from everyone around them.

Playlist

Just because Virgos seem like they have it all together doesn’t mean they don’t need hype songs, too! These songs celebrate making that list and checking boxes, but they also recognize that all that thinking can get you lost in your head.

Beyonce by “Schoolin’ Life”

If you ever see a list of Virgo content or a description of Virgo vibes that doesn’t mention Beyoncé, they have no idea what they are talking about, and you should exit immediately. Any of Queen Bey’s masterpieces will work for a Virgo playlist, but I chose this throwback to celebrate owning your power at every stage of your life.

RM by “Closer”

Another quintessential Virgo pop culture personality is RM, the leader of BTS. RM is known for his booming rap performances within the group, but his solo work is even more introspective. There are a lot of songs off his Indigo album that really fit the Virgo vibe. :Closer” is one of the more vulnerable tracks on the album, chronicling the physical closeness to someone while feeling a mental and physical distance. That disconnect is so troublesome…and so easy to relate to. How do you get out of your head and into someone’s heart? It’s a Virgo philosophical question to answer.

Keke Palmer by “Assets”

And boom, we are back on the hype train. Keke Palmer is another loud and proud Virgo. “Assets” is her boss b*tch anthem. Take this song, and Virgo season, as inspiration to inventory what you have to offer the world and figure out how best to display those assets. Keke is here to show you how.
