‘Days of Our Lives’: Deidre Hall Celebrates 39th Anniversary of Marlena & John’s ‘Magical’ Wedding

Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) and John Black (Drake Hogestyn) had one of the most iconic soap weddings of all time. The Days of Our Lives supercouple said “I do” on August 22, 1986.
Hall reminisced about Marlena and John’s nuptials in a new post. The actress shared rare footage of the moment John and Marlena were officially declared husband and wife.
“I simply blinked and it was 39 years later. It still feels magical. #days,” she captioned her Instagram video. Martha Madison, who plays Hall and Hogestyn’s onscreen daughter, Belle Black, commented, “And my love of daytime TV began…. #icons.”
Hall’s clip featured the moment when John was told he could kiss his bride. “My pleasure,” John said before passionately kissing Marlena in front of their loved ones.
More of Hall’s Days of Our Lives costars helped her celebrate Marlena and John’s anniversary in the comments. “What a pair of absolute babes,” Linsey Godfrey, who plays Sarah Horton, wrote. Greg Rikaart, aka Leo Stark, commented, “Incredible.”

Days of Our Lives recently paid tribute to Hogestyn’s John Black, eight months after the actor’s September 2024 death from pancreatic cancer. The beloved character died in Marlena’s arms after sustaining fatal injuries in a lab explosion. When the episode aired, Hall admitted it was the “hardest day ever.”
Weeks after Hogestyn’s death, Hall penned a heartfelt note about her longtime costar and onscreen love. “For nearly 4 decades, Marlena Evans and I have loved the same man,” Hall began. “Marlena’s John is an iconic hero, and unfailingly rescuing her from all matter of villains. My acting partner was incredibly professional from the moment he entered the studio; flawless in his preparation and ready for any eventuality in any scene. He was gracious and kind to everyone, from the executive staff to the night crew. Drake loved what he did and adored and respected everyone with whom he did it.”
She continued, “Having said that, we always knew that his two greatest loves were his family and the Yankees. Victoria and their children were truly the center of his life. Drake is dearly loved by everyone who ever knew him and he will be missed beyond measure. We will continue, as he always encouraged us, to swing for the fences.”
