‘Love Island USA’s Iris & Pepe Confirm Split After Season 7 Reunion
Another Love Island USA couple has called it quits!
Season 7’s Iris Kendall and Pepe Garcia-Gonzalez emerged as one of the more low-key pairings, stirring up far less drama than some of their fellow contestants. The third-place couple left the villa without defining their relationship, but they were committed to getting to know each other in the outside world.
“We both date the same way,” Pepe told Swooon in a post-finale interview. “We don’t like to talk to other people when we’re dating, so we want to explore — which is another villa term — but really get to know each other and just each other, and put all our energy and focus on one another and just see what happens.”
But around the same time the Season 7 reunion aired, fans noticed they unfollowed each other and breakup rumors swirled. Read on to learn more about Iris and Pepe’s relationship status.
Are Iris Kendall and Pepe Garcia-Gonzalez still together?
Iris and Pepe are the latest Season 7 couple — after winners Amaya and Bryan — to end their relationship. TMZ first reported that they’d broken up after interviewing Pepe on August 28, and Iris later confirmed it in a separate statement to E! News.
“I had hoped to keep this private,” she said, “but I’m so grateful for all of the love and support I’ve received since leaving the villa, and I wanted to share an update. The connection that I formed has ended, and while it isn’t how I would have imagined, I will always value the unique experience that we shared. It’s been a difficult transition, but I’m moving forward with hope, gratitude, and positivity for the future.”
That same day that they unfollowed each other, Iris added a photo of the sun setting over the ocean to her Instagram story — but that alone isn’t what caught fans’ attention. Iris chose Fleetwood Mac’s famous breakup song, “Silver Springs,” to play over it.
It also follows their recent appearance in the Season 7 reunion episode, which was filmed on August 12. Iris and Pepe sat with their arms wrapped around each other, looking happy as ever.
What have Iris and Pepe said about their relationship?
When Swooon touched base with Iris and Pepe in July, they were on the same page about their post-villa relationship status. They agreed to see each other romantically and not date anyone else. Pepe explained, “I think this is the most important part of getting outside of here is hanging out with her and seeing if going on Love Island was actually worth it and if we actually can find some love out of it.”
Iris added that she was hopeful about the direction their relationship was heading. “It’s a new experience ’cause we both have experienced the same exact thing, and I think [we’re] just taking it day-by-day,” she continued. “We’re having so much fun so far. It seems very promising and exciting.”
Afterward, the couple appeared on each other’s social media. In early August, Iris and Pepe were affectionate with each other as they answered questions during a TikTok livestream. Pepe still has photos of Iris up on his Instagram and TikTok profiles, while Iris doesn’t.
Did Pepe cheat on Iris?
Once the unfollowing was noticed, some fans have theorized that Pepe had a fling with another woman, but there’s no evidence or confirmation from the Season 7 stars yet. When Pepe spoke to TMZ, he reportedly denied the cheating claims.
