‘In the Likely Event’: Everything We Know About ‘Fourth Wing’ Author’s New Romance Movie
Before she embarked on writing one of the hottest romantasy series out there, Fourth Wing author Rebecca Yarros was in the contemporary romance game.
Technically, she still is! The same year that the first installment in Empyrean series came out, Yarros quickly published another book called In the Likely Event. After Fourth Wing was picked up by Prime Video to become a TV series, another streamer grabbed In the Likely Event. Netflix is taking on Yarros’ love story between a U.S. soldier and a congressional aide, with Yarros on board as an executive producer.
There hasn’t been much news about the production since it was announced in fall 2024, but Yarros just gave fans an exciting update on Instagram. “Time to snuggle in and read a good…SCRIPT!” she wrote in the caption underneath a photo of the screenplay’s title page. “Gahhhh, it’s surreal to watch this project moving along!”

What is In the Likely Event about?
The standalone novel charts Izzy and Nate’s journey, which begins with a chance encounter. Izzy’s headed home for the holidays, and on her flight, she’s seated next to Nate. He immediately catches her eye. Their instant connection makes Izzy believe in destiny.
But shortly after the plane takes off, their plane crashes into the Missouri River, which changes their lives forever. Afterward, they evolve as people, with Nate pursuing a career in the military and Izzy in politics. They cross paths over the years, but it never feels like the right time to strike up a romance.
When does In the Likely Event come out?
There’s no release date yet, but at least we know the script has been written! In the meantime, Yarros created a playlist for In the Likely Event, if you want to get a sense of the adaptation’s tone.
Who is in the cast of In the Likely Event?
We’re still in the dark about who’ll take on the lead characters, but we do know that as an executive producer, Yarros will have a say in who brings her characters to life. “It’s such a special book to me and I can’t wait to see Nate and Izzy brought to the screen by such a thoughtful and passionate team of creators!” she wrote on Instagram. “Gratitude isn’t a big enough word for how this feels!”
Who is making In the Likely Event?
Lindsey Ferrentino has been tapped with translating the story for the screen. In fact, In the Likely Event is one of five movies she’s writing for Netflix. She’s known for the West End play The Fear of 13, which starred Adrien Brody. Ferrentino’s also writing a movie based on Hugh Hefner‘s Playboy Empire for Sony, and she’ll step into the director role for the Netflix movie adaptation of her play Amy and the Orphans.
“Lindsey Ferrentino has a been a dream to have as the project’s writer!” Yarros wrote on Instagram. “I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with Dylan Clark Productions and Netflix to bring In the Likely Event to life.”
