‘My Life with the Walter Boys’ Stars React to Jackie & Cole’s Love Confessions in Season 2 Finale (VIDEO)
[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for My Life with the Walter Boys Season 2.]
My Life with the Walter Boys has left its love triangle in a complicated position, to say the least.
In the final moments of Season 2, Cole (Noah LaLonde) finally confronts Jackie (Nikki Rodriguez) about the romantic tension between them. After their steamy kiss at the end of Season 1 — even though Jackie was dating Alex (Ashby Gentry) at the time — Jackie spent the whole semester trying to remove herself from the drama and keep Cole in the friend zone.
But after Jackie fesses up in Episode 6, Alex tells her that he wants to get back together regardless. “I think [Alex] was aware of the connection that [Cole and Jackie] share, and he chose to ignore it and try to put his blinders on and get past it, and that didn’t work,” Gentry told Swooon in a joint interview with LaLonde and Rodriguez. “And ultimately, his confession to her is that he doesn’t care what happened with Cole because he just loves her and wants to be with her.”
Jackie’s in a secret relationship with Alex when she and Cole exchange “I love yous” in Episode 10, which is partly why her confession sounds like it’s forced out of her. “I love you, OK?” she says. “Are we done? Can I go now?” Afterward, Jackie explains that Cole makes her feel out of control, which is something she can’t handle.
“She definitely didn’t plan to say it in that moment, and she almost doesn’t want to,” Rodriguez explained. (LaLonde seemed to disagree with the not wanting to part.) “I think because, in that, she knows how complicated that is for her and everybody else involved. So she doesn’t want to hurt anybody.”
Cole spends Season 2 trying to respect Jackie’s wishes and not to admit his feelings because it’s what she needs, according to LaLonde, but after Cole walks in on Alex and Jackie kissing earlier in the season, he’s pushed over the edge. “It just boils out of him,” LaLonde says of Cole’s admission. “I don’t think he plans on saying it or anything, but he certainly feels it, so it’s readily available if the situation presents itself.”
He ends up saying “I love you” first, which Rodriguez thinks is important for Jackie to admit her feelings to herself (and him). But Cole’s confession isn’t a revelation, however, because he’s felt some “version of love” for Jackie since he first laid eyes on her, according to LaLonde.
“I don’t think he could have defined that as soon as he saw her, but when you pick up in the first season, and he’s trying to find his light at the end of his tunnel, when Jackie arrives, she slowly becomes that light,” LaLonde explains. “They’ve both gone through this process of loss and are grieving, and she’s doing it at at such a high level and still somehow getting up and persevering, and he at the time can’t find his way to do that. So he really sees her as an inspiring figure.”
Will Jackie hold onto her need for control, or will she let go? Rodriguez is keeping that detail under wraps, but the actress pointed out Jackie’s growth between Seasons 1 and 2. “I’m excited to see where she goes in Season 3,” she said.
The finale also left viewers with another question: How will Alex react to knowing that Jackie loves Cole? He overhears their exchange at the end of Episode 10. Will he stay committed to Jackie, or will he pull away from her?
“Historically, he’s gone all in,” Gentry answered. “It didn’t stop him before, so why would it stop him now?”
