During the Love Island USA Season 7 reunion, all of the couples that left the villa were still together. That’s not the case as we near the end of 2025. This time, Ace Greene and Chelley Bissainthe have called it quits.

Chelley revealed that she and Ace “decided to part ways” on December 12. “It really was a tough decision for the both of us and very hard to decide, but, you know, when you love someone, sometimes loving someone means letting go,” she said during a SiriusXM’s Page Six Radio interview, “so I think we just got to that decision.”

The now-exes found a connection early on in Season 7, and by the time they were eliminated right before the finale, they decided to date exclusively and continued to do so for months outside of the villa. So, why did Ace and Chelley break up? Swooon has the latest updates about where they stand now.

Why did Ace and Chelley break up?

Chelley said that she and her ex reached a mutual level of respect and understanding that “we wanted this to work, but sometimes things don’t work. Couples go through things that are very challenging, and sometimes the best thing to do is just make a decision that needs to be made.”

The Season 7 star said she considered their fans and supporters, but believes that they’ll understand they had to come to this decision. She didn’t share exactly why they decided to end things, deciding that the details weren’t necessary out of “respect for both of [them].” She added, “Listen, a lot happens in relationships, and I just feel like people can understand that. I think we can be peaceful and just understand that we’re good with being able to be on the same page.”

She denied staying with Ace longer than she would have because of the show and the attention that came with it. “It’s because I truly love you and you truly love me, but challenges happen in relationships and sometimes, like I said, you want to just be able to say, ‘You know what, let’s leave it right here before it turns into something it never needs to be,’ like we can leave off on light and love, you know?”

Chelley explained, “It’s all about, I think we’re put on this earth to experience people, so who knows how long that experience could last. Sometimes we want it to last a lifetime, and sometimes it’s just for that moment in time, you know? So, it’s very grateful nonetheless, and at the end of the day, I wish Ace the best, and for myself, I’m like, “Okay, I just have to focus, healing, growth.”

How long were Ace and Chelley together?

The couple was together from the time they left the villa in mid-July to mid-December, so they were together for about six months. They didn’t make their relationship official until September 29. During a trip to St. Lucia, Ace asked Chelley to be his girlfriend, which he documented in an Instagram travel vlog. He set up a romantic candlelit dinner for Chelley, and at the very end of the video, Ace told the camera, “Got me a girlfriend.” As the couple hugged, Chelley added, “I’m a girlfriend.”

A month earlier, Ace and Chelley told ESSENCE Magazine that they planned to keep their relationship fairly private on social media and that they were still seeing where their connection would take them. “All the glitz and the glam came in afterwards, as far as social media and things like that. But, I really want to grow with [Chelley] before we take on the world,” Ace said.

The couple also revealed at the time that they hadn’t yet labeled their relationship, despite being in love with each other. “I know everyone is saying, ‘Oh my gosh, how do you love one another and you’re not in a relationship?’” Chelley said. “Don’t you know that’s a feeling? Just because we didn’t say, ‘you’re my boyfriend, you’re my girlfriend,’ doesn’t mean I’m not going to speak on the feelings that I do have.”

Ace added, “I was very, very intentional with my time being in the villa and being in the outside world — I want to be intentional in dating her as well. When I’m dating somebody, I date to marry. So best believe, it’s going to come to that, but my own terms, not America’s.”

Chelley explained that focusing on her Season 7 partner has been helping her cope with post-villa life. “The only people who could understand it are the people who went through it,” she said. “So, whatever it is that I’m seeing or hearing, it doesn’t ever overpower what I actually went through. So just giving myself that reassurance and really focusing on who’s in front of me and with me — and that’s Ace.”
