‘The Runarounds’ Star Lilah Pate Weighs In on Sophia & Wyatt Romance Possibility

Could The Runarounds be gearing up for a love triangle?
Prime Video’s new YA series primarily centers on Charlie (William Lipton) as he pursues a record deal and romance right out of high school. Both goals involve Sophia (Lilah Pate). Charlie is determined to win over his longtime crush before their post-grad summer ends. Before they take things to the next level, Sophia becomes his songwriting partner.
On the other hand, Sophia and Charlie’s bandmate, Wyatt (Jesse Golliher), hardly have any one-on-one scenes — but that changes when the group gets high and stumbles upon a Wizard of Oz-themed estate in Episode 5. They all pair off to explore, and each duo has a heart-to-heart, including Sophia and Wyatt. They get vulnerable about their moms and comfort each other with a hug.
“That was one of my favorite scenes to film and watch back,” Pate said when she and her Runarounds castmates sat down with Swooon. After watching their Oz scene and hearing Wyatt say Sophia was a “non-negotiable” addition when the band signed with Danny Mace (Jennifer Daley), we couldn’t help but wonder if there was a more-than-platonic vibe going on between Wyatt and Sophia.
When we brought it up to Pate, she shot down the notion that their bond is a romantic one. “I think that they have a really beautiful friendship, and I think it’s a nice outlet for Wyatt and kind of an unexpected friendship, which is why I really liked it,” she said.
Pate added, “I think their friendship and the way that they’re there for each other and can open up that’s not romantic or like the girl’s girl relationship is really cool. But I don’t think it’ll be shipped, but I can see some TikTok edits potentially happening.”
Even though they’re just friends for now, there’s no telling what might happen between Wyatt and Sophia in a potential Season 2. The finale saw Charlie and Sophia in a strong place romantically, but maybe that’ll change with the band’s newfound success.
