Could Wenclair Happen in ‘Wednesday’ Season 3? Creators Weigh In on Possible Romance

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Wednesday Season 2 Part 2.]
Wednesday shifted gears in big ways between Seasons 1 and 2. Whereas the first installment gave the Addams daughter (Jenna Ortega) two love interests — Hunter Doohan‘s Tyler and Percy Hynes White‘s Xavier — its follow-up nipped both of those connections in the bud. Wednesday didn’t form any romantic attachments this time around. Or did she?
While Wednesday and Tyler had a few moments in Season 2, Wednesday and Enid’s (Emma Myers) journey took center stage. They pushed each other away for a while, but their bond was stronger than ever by the end of the season. When Wednesday was buried alive, Enid sacrificed herself to save her. As an alpha werewolf, Enid risks getting stuck in her animal form if she shifts during a full moon. But Enid knew it was the only way to dig her friend out in time, so she didn’t hesitate.
The finale wraps up with Wednesday keeping her promise to Enid: She swore she’d hunt Enid down if she couldn’t shift back and is leaving Jericho to find her. However, Wednesday plans to save her rather than kill her. All of this begs the question: Could the Nevermore roomies really be acting purely out of platonic love? Or are there romantic feelings there?
Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar were asked about Wednesday and Enid’s romantic odds shortly after the first handful of Season 2 episodes dropped. Decider pointed out that Wenclair has become a popular ship among fans, and they asked the duo’s dynamic might take a more amorous turn eventually.
Gough has bad news for those rooting for Wenclair. “It’s a show about female friendship and people can read into it whatever they want, which is great,” he said. “I mean, that’s the beauty of television, is people can take ownership, but they’re very much friends. It’s really a show exploring that female friendship.”
Millar added that the show is also about the idea of sisterhood. “It’s amazing that they’ve been embraced in that way,” he acknowledged. “I think it’s something that’s very special, unique about that. You have a show that is about, at its core, these two teenage girls who need each other and have found that connection. And they’re very, very different.”
Season 3 has already been announced, so at least fans know that Wednesday and Enid’s story isn’t over yet. Who knows what the creators have in store? Maybe their stance on Wenclair will change. Should the characters get a friends-to-lovers arc? Tell us in the comments below!
