‘Golden Bachelor’s Mel Owens Teases Season 2 Ending: Does He Not Get Engaged?

Mel Owens recently finished filming Season 2 of The Golden Bachelor, but the world will have to wait several more weeks to see how his journey played out. The show doesn’t even premiere until September 24, and the finale likely won’t air until the end of November.
However, he spoke about the ending of his season for the first time in a new interview and teased what fans can expect.
Of course, Mel couldn’t give too much away, but he did confirm that his main goal wasn’t necessarily getting engaged. “My goal is to meet someone that I can enjoy life with,” he shared with Entertainment Weekly. “Whatever comes from that, it comes from that. I had an open heart and an open mind, and without spoiling anything, it’s going to be good.”
As the lead for Season 2, Mel will be following in the footsteps of Gerry Turner, but showrunner Jess Castro said he’s not “Gerry 2.o,” adding, “The experiences that have led him to this part of his life are very different than from what Gerry’s are.”
The main difference? Gerry is a widow, while Mel is a divorcée. He was married to Fabiana Owens, with whom he shares two sons, for 17 years until their split in 2020. “In Season 1, there was a lot of conversation around loss,” the showrunner explained. “But that’s not the only thing that happens to you later in life. In season 2, we are going to see what happens after divorce. We are going to go on a completely different journey with Mel than we were with Gerry.”
Owens also reiterated that he addressed his controversial age comments during night one of filming after previously saying he only wanted to date women between the ages of 45 and 60 on the show.
“I knew that I had made a mistake, and I wanted to apologize to them as a group, so they knew how I felt right from the start,” he said. “They were all lovely and gracious and beautiful, and they took time out of their lives. I wanted to ask them for [the chance] to earn their trust back. Then individually, as they had a chance to talk to me, most of them asked me [about the comments] face-to-face so they could look into my eyes. I told them that I want to earn it back — and I think I did.”
